Idiot Question: Is this hayfever?

Ok, every so often, like this evening, my sinuses go absolutely bonkers. Really really runny nose, sinusy headache. Very annoying. Is this hayfever? What am I reacting to? I am indoors, in London, with windows open.

Also, is there anything I can do about it? I hate antihistamines, well, I can stand the drowsy-making ones, but the other ones make me really really annoyed.

My hay fever starts in early June and is over by mid July...

Perhaps you've got a cold...

Seems rather late in the year to be suffering from hayfever. Is this a recent development? Do you sneeze a lot, eyes watering?

Nettle tea is good for hayfever (particularly if made from fresh nettles). But it does sound like a reaction to something else imo.

I go through phases like that. It's often a perfume, household cleaner etc that sets me off

It doesn't feel like a cold - I don't feel unwell. I do often get outbreaks of really runny nose apropos of nothing. Well, I know there's a plant out there (in Canada, actually) that I'm really allergic to, but have never got close enough to find out what it was - I'm always too busy running away, eyes streaming, nose streaming, having trouble seeing.

I've had random bad runny nose for a few years, I guess. I became asthmatic a few years back (no wheezing with that). I do sometimes get sneezing. I've had watery eyes today, a bit, and have it lots now.

could be pollution?

both kids and I have had horrid cold in the last few days - v v bad sinuses but it started with all of us sneezing like lunatics for a few days. I spent ages trying to figure out if we had been exposed to some weird plant and then the cold and sinus stuff started and it all made sense!

I noticed (when I went to the chemist to get some calpol for the kids) that they are doing a roaring trade in sudafed at the mo so there's obviously something going round.

I don't think it's pollution. I mean, I cycled in London traffic yesterday, but not today.

In the autumn, when it's damp, I'm very sensitive to tree moulds or spores. My sinuses go crazy. Have you any flowers in the house? Lilly pollen is suppose to be a big offender too.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/09/2006 17:29

No flowers in the house. No plants in the house. Some plants outside, and it's pretty windy. Seems to have calmed down today, so I don't think it's a cold, or pollution (more biking in Central London today).

Ah well, I will just cope. I do wonder what it is, but it's not like it matters.
