TMI maternity towel question

Sorry in advance as this is a bit gross.

I had DD 2 weeks ago. I had some stitches, but they are healing really well and not causing me any pain anymore.

However because I'm still bleeding I've got to wear towels all of the time, and My skin is starting to get sore and stingy all around that general area. I didn't have this problem after DS (winter baby) so I think the hot weather can't be helping.

I think essentially I have adult nappy rash! Anybody got any suggestions if what I can do to help it?

Have you tried Sudocrem, it's brilliant for soreness in that area.

Can you switch to pant liners instead of towels? They might chafe less.

Congratulations on your DD Flowers

Sudacrem, lots of it! That helped me when I had a similar problem, hope it gets better soon

WaxyDaisy · 22/06/2014 23:16

What sort of towels are you using? If your using the more plasticky/always type then it might be worth trying the doorstop sized padded ones maybe?

MummySparkle · 22/06/2014 23:28

I've been using the 'doorstop' towels at night (love that description!!) but I have been using thinner, more plasticky ones in the day time. I might stick to the thick ones tomorrow and see if that helps. I'm pretty sure id be okay with panty liners, but in my head I'd rather have something more industrial-sized, just in case!

OH and I went for a long walk today (6miles - we got lost) so that probably hasn't helped. I think I shall brave the sudocrem in the morning. For some reason It seems really gross putting it on myself, however I'll happily slather it and metanium onto DS!

The plastic/Always type can chafe & make you sore. The softer, more cottony type would be better - I think Bodyform are like that, if I remember correctly.

If I were you I'd put a good slather of Sudocrem on tonight - it'll work its magic overnight & you'll be less sore in the morning.

If the sudocreme doesn't work it may be you need some canestan.

Bepanthan nappy cream is very good , I have to use it if I do a lot of cycling!

I had the problemswith towels rubbing after I had my dd and had to switch to some of the thicker old fashioned ones made by Kotex.

BertieBotts · 23/06/2014 13:49

Fold up a flannel and use that instead for a few hours. Much better on your skin. You can cover with soft cotton (cut up an old pillowcase) or fleece (will draw moisture away from your skin)

I was so desperate for relief with DS that I used his cloth nappy inserts, far too bulky, but it worked.

pickles184 · 23/06/2014 13:56

I found witch hazel made a really big difference for me, also occasionally using nappy liner soaked in camomile tea along with a doorstop was surprisingly soothing

MummySparkle · 23/06/2014 16:00

Thankfully things feel a lot better today. I've reverted to doorstops for today and have bought some really cheapie tesco liners as I'm pretty sure I remember them being soft and not plasticky. Not that absorbent either, but I'm changing them frequently anyway!

I use cloth wipes with the DCs, if things get sore again I'll bundle a few of them in my undies for a bit.

Thank you for all of your replies, it's good to know that it's not just me who has this problem!

Natracare maternity pads are brilliant

Ds was a July baby in a really hot summer and I had had a lot of stitches. While alone in the day feeding I would quite often just sit/lie on a dark footed towel and let the air circulate Grin
