TMI sorry in advance

Long story short - suffered damage since birth almost a year ago. Surgeons unsure of the problem. Was examined with cameras and received botox as back passage may now be 'too small.'

(Had an invasive birth - episiotomy and forceps with lots of stitches)

Came out of hospital a week and a half ago. Was informed back passage was extremely narrow which caused a lot of bleeding as I was 'stretched' during the examination.

Anyway, this was 10 days ago . I managed to finally go to the toilet on Monday, not been since and I'm very uncomfortable but the pains so bad. Any tips on how to get things soft ASAP? This isn't healthy and I am really uncomfortable.

Sorry for the TMI Sad Blush Blush

You poor thing. Did they not prescribe any stool softeners? Go to your GP and explain. In the mean time drink plenty, eat lots of fruit and take prune juice.

That sounds awful and very uncomfortable.
You could try Glycerol suppositories for immediate relief - they're not as bad as they sound. Little jelly type bullets that you pop up as high as you can and wait. I personally take myself to the bedroom, with a magazine and a cup of tea and lie on my tummy for as long as I can manage while waiting.... TMI - the longer you wait = the more it liquifies.

Asda and Superdrug also sell them and they've had them in Poundland a few times too.

To prevent the bunging up you need something like Lactulose from the gp. It works when taken daily but it's the only one I've tried so there's possibly other meds with the same effect.

Hope you feel better soon Xx

Agree, those suppositories work, but you will feel like you're passing a brick sideways. However the pain is short lived and you will be able to poo with ease afterwards. Didn't know you could buy them over the counter had mine on prescription.

myusernameis · 22/06/2014 22:46

You can buy lactulose OTC as well.

myusernameis · 22/06/2014 22:47

didn't mean to press send when I did!

Hope you feel better soon OP.

That's why I suggested a long wait Up things do move out quite fast but once it's done - it's done and the relief is bloody lovely tbh. ;)

Buying otc is pricey here (unless you pay for prescriptions) - they used to be around £1.70 a few years back but they've put them up to £3 + now. I try to stock up when I'm in Europe as they're only £1 where I also live.
Like I said ^ Poundland have stocked them before but I've been out of the country for a while so don't know if they've had them recently.

Call the surgeons secretary, explain the problem and ask her to ask the surgeon for advice, alternatively See your GP and get a prescription for something like movicol. I doubt over the counter remedies are going to cut it here.
