Molluscum Contagiosum Warts - a question

My daughter's had a lot of these foul molluscum warts all over her body since January. They've grown from being a red patch, to pimples, to quite large warts and now I THINK they are very slowly starting to go as they are flaring up, looking absolutely dreadful (like what I imagine a really large badly infected whitehead would look like), popping, oozing blood and then gradually receeding. I was feeling quite heartened by this disgusting process as I felt that the warts were FINALLY going but ... either some of her small warts have got bigger or she's developed some more in the meantime and that's making me wonder whether they are on the way out or not.
If anyone's experienced this with their child/children then I would be really grateful to know whether the bloody bit of the cycle is the beginning of the end or not? I know there's people out there with really series probems and this minor skin complaint seems trivial in comparison but it's really awful when you watch your child's 'perfect' little body become covered with these apparently non-treatable things and their friends keep asking them what they are etc. ... and now my younger daughter's got them too, only she seems to have got more of them and they're getting closer to her face ...
Thank you in advance.

ds3 is covered at well (back and tummy) they do go as they explode- but - in the proces sof exploding they can form more (its the inner bit that's can spread the infection). My homeopath recoommended covering them with some gauze as they explode. I do think ds3's are on the way out as the number of new ones seems to have decreased whilst explosions have decreased.

How old is your dd? Ds3 is 20 months and I'm kind of pleased to get them out of the way whilst he's still young.

DD1 is 4 in three weeks. DD2 is just over 2.5 years old. I know about the contagious bit but have been trying to give DD1 a bit of a break from all the plasters that she's usually covered with in order to keep all her clothes from getting really bloody (which neither of us like much) and so that she can't pass them on. It's just been so horrid with DD1 that I can't bear the thought of not being able to find something that works for her and again for DD2 as she's always had the peachiest, softest, most gorgeous skin! So far I've been through Molloscum-No-More, Duct Tape(!), Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream (don't ask - I'm desperate!), Thuja tablets ... and next week I'm about to pay through the nose for a joint appointment with a homeopath with no guarantees that she can help ... I'm just desperate for something to work and to get rid of them (without passing them on to any of their friends either ... imagine how popular you'd be with the friend's mother ... eek!).

I tried Elizabeth Arden as well It was buy 2 get one free so I am flooded with them

Actually homeopathy DID get them moving for us. They'd been there for months flesh coloured, sitting around doing nothing just multiplying. Meanwhile ds3 had some hideous stubborn eczema round his face, so I called in the homeopath. Day after the remedy the eczema had flare dup massively- then disappeared, hasn't been back, and 2 molluscum started to explode- have slowly worked their way through exploding, so worth a go I think.

That's funny about the Elizabeth Arden creams ! Will try to be a little less sceptical about the homeopath and cross everything that she'll find something that will help.

Snowstorm, we are in the exploding stage too but ds (2 tomorrow) has loads of tiny ones still, all over his tummy and now groin, am paanoid what will happen if he gets on on his willy!

when dd had them, I swore by manuka honey but it hasn't worked with ds! they are so ugly - got a bit panicked as his get so huge and infected I took him to gp a couple of weeks ago and he said 'normal, just leave them'.

xoxoxo · 07/09/2006 08:34

Hi
my ds had these from age 1 to 3: torso only, thank god. They went on their own, and very suddenly.

dd now has them but it has gone into her eye. I have bought every homepath remedy going and can honestly say that they are going at the same pace as ds', which I did not treat at all, on gp advice.

Save your money - buy some funky plasters instead to cheer up little ones. And ice cream, of course!

BTW, both caught them from kiddies swimming lessons - warm water, lots of little bugs in there. Some kids are more vulnerable to them apparently.

That's the thing isn't it XOXOXO, no-one has any idea as to whether anything actually works or whether the spots were going to go at that time anyway. I'm dithering about this so much (appointment's booked for Tuesday with the homeopath). DD1's got about 7 exploded big bloody spots today (more plasters than skin on display this morning!) so I'm tempted to leave her be as I'm so hopeful that this really is it. It's just the thought of having to go through the same with DD2 with these hideous, disgusting looking things that makes me feel that if there's a chance we can see them off before they become more than small pimples, then that would be worth it. Dither, dither .

well, good luck with it.
In my experience big horrible spots bursting is the final stage, but def. the most contagious, so plaster, plaster, plaster!!
After that there is just the little scars! Hopefully these will fade. But we have missed out on public swimming for 2 years now.
Good luck

Just found this thread - I know this may not be relevent to anyone, but dd had them for ages and so did all her friends - as everyone seemed to have them there seemed to be no point in not going swimming. Anyway, when she was nearly 3y she got chicken pox, and when the pox spots had gone, so had the molluscums! They have never come back.
