Any GPs here- question about elderly parent

I want to know if my Mum's GP is dismissing things or not.
My mum is almost as old as the Queen- 87- and reasonably fit and active for her age. She does though have 'bad' days when she says she feels 'wobbly' and unsteady on her feet and a bit spaced out generally. She deals with this by lying down or going to bed late afternoon or early evening.
A few years back she had a suspected TIA and is on aspirin and statins but her BP is okay most of the time - unless she gets anxious.

She's seen her GP about the 'wobbly' episodes and they say they can't find anything wrong but you do wonder if this is down to money and they are not offering tests etc due to her age.

I live 300 miles away and don't see her often but have to rely on my sister who lives near them for updates, but am in the position where we could pay for tests etc if need be.

Any ideas?

I'm not a GP but am a carer for elderly people. If you are concerned then I'd follow your instincts and insist on tests for things like anaemia (which can make people feel wobbly and weird), urine test, blood sugar, cholesterol, full blood count, thyroid function, liver and kidney function etc.

Also someone can have generally good blood pressure but it's not unusual for an older personal to have postural drops in blood pressure, ie when they get up from a laying or sitting position, their bp drops and makes them feel dizzy, light-headed.

Just because someone is old, doesn't mean symptoms should be written off as part of being old.

These are just the thoughts of a lay person though, so maybe someone with a proper medical background will come along and advise.

Good points from MonterayJack .

I think I'd be concerned if a GP said they couldn't find anything wrong because I'd wonder what kind of tests they'd done to reach that conclusion .

Have they done blood tests ? What do they think about her heart function ?

I think if she's been generally well and these are new symptoms then they warrant careful/thorough investigation . Which of course the GP may have done ,has your mum told you what GP did to check her health ?

Good luck .
