For those who have been diagnosed with ibs...

Have you had any tests to rule out other things such as a colonoscopy?

I've been told by a GI consultant that I have ibs c. Even though the reason I went in the first place was loose stools after eating veg?!

Anyway I'm just a bit hesitant as I had read that ibs can only be diagnosed by ruling other things out? Sometimes I have loose stools other times I feel I need but can't quite go. I'm 33.

Just other peoples stories would help me greatly as I don't know anyone with ibs (or at least anyone who talks openly about their poo habits!!!) lolx

Thank!

The combo of constipation and looseness is classic IBS.

You don't have to have a colonoscopy- that sounds excessive.
You do sometimes need a blood test for coeliac which is underdiagnosed and can cause looseness and pain .

He's right in a way- IBS is diagnosed after other things have been ruled out but at 33 the odds of you having bowel cancer or anything serious are almost nil.

I'd recommend having a look at this site- I know this person and she's great- have used her ideas and expertise professionally for a piece on IBS I wrote.

I had a blood test for coeliac but had to push for it.

I've had the blood test and it came back negative.

I've also had a stool test called calprotectin which looks for inflammation anywhere in the GI tract. Mine came back raised by quite a bit.

I was referred to a GI consultant. Calprotectin test is supposed to differentiate between ibs and ibd. Anyway when I went to the GI he just said yes it is raised but he looks at that level and just thinks it's absolutely nothing at that level. He then said you have ibs.

I have an on off stomach ache (mild) in one particular place and I though with ibs you didn't get that?

I also go between constipation but when I eat healthy fruit and veg I get loose stools. GI asked if I saw blood in stools to which I replied no but then I thought how these adverts for bc talk about hidden blood.

As you can tell I'm feeling a bit anxious. :(

If you look at the link I left for you, you'll see under the FODMAP info that many fruit and veg are the worst things ever for IBS.

Have a read of the site and you'll see why- it does explain it all quite clearly.

Then think about changing your diet.
