If you have gastritis or an ulcer, what do you drink?

Been suffering with this for about 2 weeks now. I've limited what I eat (cereals, bread, no fat, etc etc) but I'm really struggling with things to drink. At the moment I'm drinking water and tea (although I feel I should cut this out). Are there any other hot drinks? I can't bear chamomile tea or herbal teas generally. My only thought at the moment is Horlicks but that's pretty high in calories to drink more than once a day. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, has anyone tried cabbage juice to relieve symptoms? TIA.

Are you being treated for the gastritis? I found it only took about a week to start feeling better

As to drinks, I gave up coffee but never drank fizzy drinks anyway. I had water or squash

In Germany doctors recommend a natural treatment called 'Rollkur' (if you understand German you can google details entering 'Kamillentee und Rollkur'). There are many slightly different ways of doing it but in essence you need to try to coat your stomach lining with chamomile tea.

I was advised to brew the tea strongly (two teabags in a covered cup for 15 minutes) and to do the 'Rollkur' a few times a day (especially in the morning on an empty stomach and then last thing at night jwhen going to bed).

You need to drink about a quarter of the cup lying on your back and stay in that lying position for about 5-10 minutes. You then roll on your side, front and finally other side doing the same thing each time until you have effectively rolled over 360 degrees and coated your entire stomach with the tea.

It is obviously quite time consuming (around 20-40 minutes each time) but it can work. I had really bad gastritis when I was younger and was advised to try this before a potential (for me frightening) endoscopy. Luckily it did work for me and I did not have to go ahead with the procedure.

Sorry OP, just realised you can't stand chamomile tea. Shame as i do believe it works but obviously no use if it makes you feel sick.

I gave up my fist cup of tea - the one I had on an empty stomach & it really, really, helped. If I wanted an early am hot drink I had hot water & honey.

I'm not a fan of herbal teas but like rooibos tea ,sold everywhere now .

Licoroice tea is also suprisingly nice .

Hope the gastritis gets sorted .

Thanks everyone. I've started cutting out the first cup of the tea of the day on an empty stomach and also drinking cabbage juice 3 times a day. It is disgusting, but does seem to be helping. There's quite a lot of evidence to show that it helps to soothe inflammation and therefore heal ulcers. I'm having to mix it with carrot juice though just to be able to drink it!

Will have a go at honey & hot water, rooibos and licorice tea. Thanks for all the suggestions. Really don't think I can do the chamomile, but may have a go ... can't be much worse than cabbage juice after all Grin
