Let me dive right in and get to the point.

I have suffered with headaches for over 15 years. 'So what?' you may ask, well each headache usually lasts between 2 and 5 days and nothing, not paracetamol, codeine, ibuprofen will shift it. Well Syndol used to sometimes, but you can't get that anymore and Solphadeine's not quite as good.
So I get headaches. A lot. Not entirely sure what triggers them, but have had several theories over the years and none of them seem to be the 'cause'. The headache will go in it's own time as long as I take it easy.

More often than not I am tired. I go to bed around 10.30 and get up around 7. However, I don't sleep all that well, I wake a night and take time to fall asleep again. The light mornings are the worst as I find it more difficult to go back to sleep in the summer (and yes I do have blackout lining etc).

I do enjoy exercising and feel good when I have my 'keep fit' periods, but they don't keep the headaches at bay either. Although it does make me sleep better so that's a plus.

I have no sex drive, and that's becoming an issue with my DH.

My cycle is around 25 days, of which I bleed for at least 6 days.

I'm overweight, I don't eat badly, probably too much chocolate, but a girl needs some pleasures! I eat veg and fruit and meat and am conscious that family meals and healthy and nutritious.

I'm often cold, especially hands and feet.

I've been googling Hypo thyroidism. Am I being crazy or is there a real chance that could be the problem.

Well, I'd definitely be expecting your GP to do some bloods to exclude things like thyroid issues. There's also the very real possibility you have more than one problem. Have your headaches never been investigated before? There are specialist clinics you can attend. Have you been checked for poly cystic ovaries, too?

Write a list to show your doctor and I'm sure she will organise some investigations.

Acupuncture is supposed to be good for treating headaches also Botox treatment. I think something called Feverfew is meant to help. Best to get checked for blood tests as could be thyroid. Are you on hormonal contraception? The pill & Mirena have me headaches.

Try cutting out the chocolate and caffeine as they can be triggers.

BogeyNights · 19/06/2014 21:07

Yep, blood tests to organise for next week. Checking hormones, and lots more things. Has offered mini pill to start at next appearance of AF - not long to wait - yay! :(

Will see what results of blood tests bring up. She didn't dismiss thyroid being a problem, but can't say anything until blood results are in.

So after checking my prescription, doc has prescribed Cerelle. Just googled it and there's not a good word to say about it!
Mood swings, long heavy periods and weight gain. Think I'll wait till blood tests are back before I start taking it!

Bogey - I had terrible headaches before being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Feeling cold is also a symptom. When you have a headache do you feel detached from reality, like your not really there IYSWIM. And do you have problems with your eye sight, not focusing correctly or odd visual disturbances.

BogeyNights · 22/06/2014 11:41

almost thanks for your reply. I don't feel detached as such, but I can literally feel the energy draining from me - I used to describe it like being an ice pop, when you suck all the flavour and colour from it and you're left with a stick of ice. I do find it hard to concentrate too during a headache.
