Itchy scalp - please help

I have had a really, really itchy scalp for two years now (it started when I got pregnant with DS2, as I can remember buying some itchy head shampoo when I bought my pregnancy test!)

Over the years I have tried lots of different shampoos - including medicated shampoo, shampoo for itchy scalps and sulphate free shampoo. None have made any difference.

I don't have nits. I don't have dandruff. My scalp is clear and healthy.

I have had blood tests for anaemia and thyroid function - all fine.

The only thing that helps is for me to take an antihistamine. Does this mean it is an allergy to something? If so, how can I find out what?? I don't itch anywhere else. I don't want to take antihistamine every day as it makes me really, really sleepy (even the non-drowsy ones).

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Would my GP be able to arrange an allergy test?

It's driving me mad and is starting to really affect my day-to-day life :(

Thank you.

I think there is a shampoo called Nizarol you can buy OTC that might help.

I've had this for years too OP. I could never find the solution until I changed my diet radically. I cut out grain, sugar, dairy and processed food. It's an autoimmune diet so I didn't do it for my itchy scalp but my symptoms completely disappeared. When I started to introduce food groups I found dairy made the symptoms come back.
I eat hardly any diary anyway but a bit of cheese seems to have a big impact.
Why not cut out some food groups and see if it helps your symptoms?

I have a similar problem due to medication
I have started using shampoo from beautynaturals.com
I find the more natural stuff better than shampoos like aussie and head and shoulders.

The only one that has worked for DH is one from Philip Kingsley for dry and itchy scalps. he has had problems for years and tried loads of shampoo and TBH it's more like slight eczema. It's not cheap- £21 a bottle- but it does appear to work and lasts for ages. John Lewis online do it if you want mail order.
