Anyone else have ibs?

I've recently been diagnosed with ibs-d I wondered if anyone else here has it too, it's embarrassing and gross but maybe someone else is going through the same things?
I had a bad attack last night so this morning I'm restricted to dry toast and peppermint tea, I might push the boat out later and try a rich tea biscuit.
I can't possibly be alone? My dr was rather blasé about it all and said it's really common but I've never met anyone else with it. My mil has ibs-c and she sympathises but it's literally the total opposite so advice for her doesn't work for me.

It's depressing really it's like having a stomach bug that never goes away, I recently had a massive attack which is what got me diagnosed (and cancer screening) I had daily diarrhoea for seven weeks. I lost weight and was convinced I'd die.

I have had bouts of it and it can flare up by just eating the wrong thing (onions for me).

My sister has it and hers also flares up. I'm not sure what type as I know there's C and D.

I know of a fair few people that suffer in silence with it. Doctor recommended Buscopan for the cramps.

Sorry I can't help you anymore but just wanted to let you know you aren't suffering alone.

Me, I have had ibs for 23 years, diagnosed at 14 after a nasty bout of salmonella. You are not alone! It is most definitely related to stress and hormones with me and I have ibs-d so empathise with the stomach bug that won't go away feeling. I could write a book about it but here are a few things that help me after much trial and error.

Ibs, for me, has a life of its own. I can roughly know the triggers (heavy rich meals, anxiety, periods, pulses, v got food) but I can have all of the an of and no ibs and none of the above and a full on flare. It's a bugger like that. I can have flares that last for weeks or just a couple of days but I do have bits inbetween where I feel fine, even when I think it's never going to go away. Things that help;

Buscopan (takes a few days to build up unfortunately and you can take two at a time)
Paracetamol if pain is bad.
Immodium, essential sometimes.
Cutting out gluten made me much much worse - simple carbohydrates help me. This may not be the case for you but def worth finding out your triggers (have you seen the fodmap diet?)
Caffeine is enemy no1 for me. Sad face. I never drink it now and if I do, I know about it. Mint tea very helpful.
I always carry spare knickers and meds. I've never needed the knickers but I feel comforted to know they are there! They are folded into a tiny pouch. Actually I did need them once with a surprise period. I think relaxation is important, yoga and reflexology can be very soothing.

It is rubbish - but making sense of it, getting the right meds and knowing there are LOADS of people with ibs does help me. Ask if you have any qs.

My dr has been really unhelpful, I have no prescriptions and no input from them what to do they just seemed to want to put a label on me and shove me out of the door.

I know too much dairy is a trigger as is fatty or spicy foods

Oddly I can manage a small amount of cheese unless it's melted then it about kills me, something about melting the cheese, I'd love cheese on toast but te thought of melted cheese makes my tummy wibble.
I'm losing weight pretty fast though so that's a good thing!

I get all my meds from the chemists as and when I need them. Wuld be cheaper on prescription though.

MySpideySenseTickles · 19/06/2014 18:24

What's most annoying is I get free prescriptions.
