endometrial ablation

Good evening. I have extremely heavy and painful periods. I have tried everything from depo injections to the pill and have asked for a hysterectomy. It has been suggested I try endometrial ablation first. Has anyone else had this and has it helped ? Thanks x

I had about 18 months ago. Novasure under GA. A bit crampy for 2 days.

And no period since. Which has changed life hugely.

I would say do it.

Can I ask a couple of questions please? I have no libido to speak of. Does the ablation help at all ? Also I am a regular thrush sufferer would anyone know if it makes any difference to this ? Thanks c

I had the ablation a few years ago. Life changing. Periods were so heavy for 2 days that I was pretty much housebound with flooding etc. I didn't have pain (childbirth stopped my previously terrible period pain). I had general anaesthetic - I wasn't given a choice. I now only bleed a tiny amount - more like spotting really (one panty liner a day for 2 -3 days max). I'd do it again in a blink.

It didn't however change PMS, libido or anything else. Just the bleeding.

Ginge sorry I can't help with answers to those either. I did have to use massive tampons plus pads to do the 10 min school run and some of the pads definitely caused thrush. Always scented I think. There have been threads on MN about them.

I had it done about 8 weeks ago. Had Novasure under GA (where I am they don't do it any other way). I was pretty knocked out for about a week (but going into the op knackered, having 4 children and coming down with flu afterwards didn't help). I had a very light period about 4 weeks ago, am waiting to see whether I have another. The lightness of bleeding was a revolutionary experience - barely needed to even think about it.
