I think dd has glandular fever ...

My dd (12) has been off school for 2 weeks now with a cold virus and she just isn't showing any signs of getting better. I took her to the doctor last week and she said if it isn't better in another week they will test her for GF.

Her symptoms are that of a heavy cold, very congested, feverish on and off, and extremely lethargic.

Any advice/experience to offer? I'm really worried and if she doesn't improve over the weekend I'll take her back to doc on Monday and ask for the blood test

there do seem to be a lot of horrible bugs around at the moment, i'm hoping it's one of those and not GF!

If it's any remote comfort I wasn't like most of that with glandular fever- the lethargy, certainly, but not the congestion and cold, or even fever paradoxically. It's true there are lots of nasty bugs around, so let's hope. At least the test for GF is completely cut-and-dried, so you'll know straight away. Hope she gets better soon!

hi sm, I have glandular fever and I didn't have any symptoms other than a mild cold, no fever or anything and no swollen glands.

You should get them to test for it, though there's nothing they can do for it anyway

CD, I was just thinking about you the other day and the possibly GF-induced depression- how are you doing now?

spacemonkey · 27/03/2004 12:05

thanks tamum and cd - have just looked at her tonsils and they're up but don't look infected. Also her glands don't seem particularly large. I think it's probably just a nasty cold virus. I will still take her back to the doc's for a test next week if she's not back at school by then - I know they can't treat it, but am worried I'll get thrown into jail for keeping her off school for so long!
