Having a CT scan on a Sunday; not sure how I feel about it?

Should I be :

a) grateful for the appointment
b) pleased that they are using the equipment at the weekend (as downtime for expensive equipment costs money - but wonder if that balances having to pay people extra to work at weekends)
c) concerned that they are bringing me in that quickly (I have waited about 8 weeks since my appointment & it's 10 days away Wink)

Actually, I chased the appointment 2 days ago and I feel a bit surprised to letter a letter today

My local hospital have been outsourcing their MRI and CT scanners for a while now. It's sped up the process and it's helpful for those who work FT.

It is good that the equipment is being used more fully

& I suppose it's good that I don't have to miss work......well at least my team are glad I don't have to miss work

Now I just have to work out when my period was and if its due before then as I'm at a stage when I kind of ignore that!!

At my hospital the normal waiting time for a booked scan is 4 weeks. This is because they book scans with gaps between them deliberately to allow for emergency cases. In the last year I've had 2 booked scans and one done as an emergency where I was basically wheeled up from A&E and slotted into the next gap.

Since the scanner needs to be available for use during the weekends for emergencies anyway, it makes sense to book in some routine scans as well so the facility is utilised fully and the waiting times are shorter.

Win-win all round I think

Hmm so my 10.5 weeks wait is untypical.....

I agree using it is great

Katy - I was waiting for a CT scan, so chased it like you did and lo and behold letter appears in post two days later. You may very well be using the same hospital as me !

I had to have an ultra sound in feb. and that was an evening appointment - I think its good they are getting maximum usage of equipment by using it out of hours.
Hope your scan goes well.

Tomorrow I am chasing up an op I have been waiting for - hopefully that will also result in a letter in the post within days Grin

DS has an MRI scan at 6:30pm on Friday. I was surprised too.

KatyMac · 12/06/2014 20:43

Kurri - I Pm'ed you to check

It feels odd even if it isn't

Is it awful of me to be thinking I could 'eat normally' for the next week or so - so the doctor sees it how it really is?

We are so busy that in order to keep up with demand we now run scanners at the weekends. We offer Saturday and Sunday appts.

KatyMac · 12/06/2014 23:07

It is a good idea - but I do feel sorry for the team that have to work Sundays (mind you it might suit some families)

We all work a shift pattern anyway. So whether we are in CT or A&E X-ray , it makes no difference to us.

Doinmummy · 12/06/2014 23:14

Our department ( CT, X-ray , MRI) is open every day of the year.
