impetigo - going on holiday

DS has small round spot on underneath of upper arm that could possibly be the start of impetigo (but I'm 90% sure it's not). We're going away tomorrow for 5 days and he's in nursery today so the question is -
if it did turn out to be impetigo would he need to see a doc while we were away or can it wait (I know it's infectious but presumably if not in place on body they can touch there is no problem passing to others when we're out and about)?

katierocket - not trying to panic you, but fwiw when my DS1 had impetigo I took him to evening surgery and the GP insisted that I go straight to late night chemist that very evening to get the antibiotic for him - also we had to get him up in the night to give him one of the doses - so that GP anyway seemed to think it was important

but it may be that others have heard that you can take a more relaxed attitude

Oh Bugger.
might see if I can get docs appt and get him out of nursery early.

sorry if it wasn't what you wanted to hear

katierocket · 26/03/2004 12:12

no, it's Ok dinosaur, I appreciate hearing your experiences. How long did ds1 take to develop it - ie. from when you first saw the spot to when your realised it was something not right?

I would get it looked at too. If it is imperigo it needs treated. Shouldn't be at nursery if it is anyway. Better to be sure.

ummmm...tbh because he wasn't at nursery, and we didn't know any other kids who had it, we were fairly slow to react - I think it was a few days before we took him to doctor - but it had got a lot worse during those few days so with benefit of hindsight we should have gone earlier

gold123 · 26/03/2004 12:41

my dd had it, it started off as what looked like a cold sore on her face, it spread like wild fire, I took her to see Doc on day 2 and was given antibiotics to take 4 times a day - They told me that it will not clear up without the antibiotics and they have to stay off school/nursey for 48 hours after starting the antibiotics.
