SepVax, how long did you wait for the mumps vaccine?

After severe reactions to first vacinations we have decided not to risk it with the MMR, however, I have read that there's a shortage for mumps vacine. How long did it take you to complete the full course? (between the first vaccine and mumps which I believe is the last to be administered)?

as I expect the demand would have increased therefore the waiting must be longer as well so, if you have used sepvax, how long ago did you completed the course?

my DS (2.5) started his course about 12 months ago. STILL hasn't has mumps injection. TBH I've kind of given up hope.

Chandra · 26/03/2004 11:14

Mmmm that becomes an issue... after having so much trouble to conceive I would be afraid of causing him a problem for the future, please, anybody convince me to go ahead with sep vax!!

chandra have a look at this (previous thread)
www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=138&threadid=4531&stamp=030828142332\single mumps effectiveness

and I take out aloha's comment specifically when I raised this concern.

"It's not that there's no evidence re sterility, more that there is conflicting evidence. Even the Department of Health says that there is no proof of a link. And even if there is a very slight chance of impaired fertility (and the most minute chance of sterility ) then this only applies after puberty. There is no risk whatsoever to pre-pubertal boys. "

oh bum
here you go
single mumps effectiveness

Kayleigh · 26/03/2004 11:20

We have an appointment this weekend for ds2 mumps vaccine. The clinic called last week to say it was finally in. I phoned again yesterday to double check and the appointment is Saturday. We have been waiting since September.

Jimjams · 26/03/2004 11:21

I've quoted somewhere on mumsnet from an orthodox medical book. Risk of infertility from mumps- even after puberty is tiny.

Chandra · 26/03/2004 11:22

Kayleigh, which clinic are you using?

Katierocket I'm off to check it, thanks!

katierocket · 26/03/2004 11:23

it was the thread I pointed chandra to jimjams.

jmg · 26/03/2004 11:28

still waiting - been nearly 2 years now!

I'm not terribly bothered really.

Chandra · 26/03/2004 11:30

After reading the other thread I feel reasured about waiting then, however.... I con not understand why, if the disease is so mild and the risks so minor... why all the world vaccine children against mumps? is any importantant information being hidden to the public?

Chandra, it's the Breakspear clinic in Hemel Hempstead, Herts.

Chandra · 26/03/2004 12:06

Thanks, I will try to find info about it.
Has anybody gone abroad for the vaccine? where did you go?

Furball · 26/03/2004 12:52

DS had his just before christmas 2003, not exactly when we would have chosen to have it done, but it turned out fine, no reactions or anything. We waited 14 months from the previous jab. That was with Desumo.

Chandra · 26/03/2004 14:07

anybody else?

OP posts:
donnie · 26/03/2004 14:31

go ahead with them Chandra! our dd had separate vax's and we are so glad.We went to the Brakespeare hospital in Hertfordshire and had around a month in between vaccinations.Go for it!

Angeliz · 26/03/2004 14:42

Chandra, my dd has waited over a year for hers. (we went with Direct Health 2000).
Apparently, she's at the top of the list so should be soon. I am not too worried though as i'm sure she'll get it when they are able! My cousins little girl has waited over a year too!

Good luck whatever you decide

aloha · 26/03/2004 15:29

Still waiting - ds 2.6 and had first vaccinations at just over a year. But not really worried - mumps isn't serious for children his age.

katierocket · 19/05/2004 13:16

finally had notification that clinic has single mumps jab in (14 months after original appointment).

Anyone else's child had it recently?

It is 'mumpsvax jeryl lynn strain', anyone know anything significant about this particular vac?

katierocket · 19/05/2004 14:33

bump

unicorn · 19/05/2004 14:35

Wierd I just rang to check about this this morning.
Still waiting ds(2) had his first injection last June.
Any idea why they aren't sending many supplies- I reckon it's political... to stop us having single jabs.
What you think?

katierocket · 19/05/2004 14:50

yes, I think the govt put a daily limit on the number that can be imported into the country

unicorn · 19/05/2004 14:52

that's outrageous then isn't it.. I mean we're just trying to protect our kids and they don't give a monkeys!
