Can you have a sinus problem without having had a cold?

For the last week Ive been feeling a bit off, very lazy and cant seem to get myself going. My eyes were very scratchy feeling at the beginning, sort of dry, so I bought drops. Ive had tension around eyebrow and tingling down my nose. Ive been worrying its something to do with my eyes and phoned doctor about it and have made an appointment with the optician to be sure, but Im thinking could it be my sinsues and thats whats making me feel this way. We went out yesterday to the park and I felt totally fine then, but once we had been back home an hour or so the tight feelings came back. I havent been having headaches, dont drink or smoke. I dont feel ill but just feel I could spend the day lying in bed watching TV and feeling sorry for myself. What do you think?

Sinusitus usually give syou loads of pressure pain behind eyes. If you bend down, does it feel as if your eyes will pop out? That's how mine feel when my sinuses play up.

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 12:08

Most definitely. I have sinusitis quite frequently.

Allergy perhaps ?

pepsi · 04/09/2006 12:11

What Im experiencing isnt painful, I can just feel something is there. Ive just tipped my head upside down and its made my nose tingle down the sides. All throughout the holiday Ive been really enthusiastic and felt great but this last week I just feel so cant be bothered.

What are other symptons then.

If it were sinuses how long should it take to clear up/or how long before I go and see a GP. I have my eye test a week today.

Sounds sinusy...but could be allergy affecting sinuses ....if it was better when you were out ( sure you weren't just distracted from it??) could be allergy to something inthe home, pets or dust?

pepsi · 04/09/2006 12:17

I wondered if it might be distraction, cant say the house is in top form following 6 weeks with children at home. We do have a gerbil but have had her for a couple of years, so dont know. Ive never had an allergy so dont know what its like, does it make you feel how Im describing with the feeling of cant be bothered and feeling a bit sicky?

Can anyone else help?

Do you have any gas appliances that might be giving out low level carbon-monoxide? I'm not sure that it would give any sinus symptoms but it would make you feel sluggish and nauseous. I think it's unlikely to be this if no-one else in the family is getting symptoms, but it could be worth checking out.

We heat on gas, we do get our boiler checked yearly by British Gas, it did cross my mind I have to say, but I do feel its that. Part of me thinks it may be a minor sinus thing coupled with a bit of boredom perhaps, we have done a lot over the holidays but for the last week have calmed down and spent more time at home...perhaps I have reached the end of my children entertaining ideas. Its the last day of the hols, my car is in for service so no where far to go. Think I might be feeling a bit sad that the hols are over as I so much looked forward to them. I dont know, thats what I hate when I feel like this. You never no if its normal and everyone goes through phases of feeling off colour or its is something that needs attention. Im really off my food too, nothing tastes good....even water tastes different. Now Im complicating things.

sorry, that should be "dont feel its that"

Get a carbon monoxide detector - it's probably not that - but you never know. Assuming that's all OK, if you're still feeling OK away from the house you must be reacting to something in it. You could try keeping a diary for a couple of weeks and see if there's any pattern to anything. Hopefully, by then you'll be feeling better anyway!
