Vasectomy.....please share! Seriously worried about DH.

My DH had a vasectomy a week last Tuesday and is still in a lot of pain. We've been googling about post vasectomy pain (PVP) syndrome this morning and it doesn't look good.

Whilst we realise at this stage, a certain amount of discomfort is to be expected, he has been exchanging stories and experiences with friends over the past couple of days, and none of them experienced this...

He has pain in his tube in his groin area ...can't remember the medical name for the tubes. Anway, when the procedure was being done, he felt a tugging pain, and this pain is worse now than it was after the op.

It's seems almost medieval, when there are options for laser procedures these days, but he had the scalpel method.

The consultant also didn't have an assistant that day, as she had broken her arm, so it was a one man job..WTAF?

On the internet we've read horror stories about guys being in pain for the rest of their lives, not being able to have sex or even ejaculate, etc, etc.

Anyone have similar experiences (good or bad) that they can share? Currently can't contact the consultant as he's not available.

Can't stay online as have to go out, but will read any responses asap.

TIA for anyone who reads and replies.

Pain injection has helped with scar tissue but not the PVPS as thats difficult to treat. GP stuff still ongoing with complaints and solicitor.

Testosterone isnt easy to get as NHS don't like to prescribe it. Mainly due to the drug abusing gym fanatics who seem happy to grow muscles but shrink their goolies.

I think you need to get your DH referral to Urology. Pain should lasy no more than two weeks. Good luck.

Good grief! How on earth can 'don't like to prescribe it' be in any way adequate in a case such as yours?

TheFuzz · 21/07/2014 13:23

GP confirmed not allowed to prescribe. Now await three months for referral to an Endo, then more tests, and maybe treatment in many months time.

Will need a barrage of blood tests to see where my system has broken down, I am sure it's due to surgery and a badly done Vasectomy.

Got to try and get back to work. Castrated is the word I would describe vasectomy. Even sex offenders don't get this.

It does show the NHS system doesn't really give a shit about men's health. They just won't prescribe testosterone after an obvious 'trauma' down there.

Thanks, Fuzz. Yes, will push DH to go back to GP and request a referral.

I've been sat here for a good five minutes, trying to think what to type.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe it's just as well that the GP isn't allowed to prescribe..a GP is unlikely to be knowledgeable enough about cases like this. You need someone who is totally on the ball, knows all current research etc in charge of this.

They aren't saying you won't be able to have testosterone ever, are they? Just that the GP is unable to prescribe it?

I really don't see how they can make you wait three months for a referral, though. If ever there was a reason to put someone at the front of the queue... It should be an urgent referral, not a run of the mill one, surely?

I wonder if there are any endocrinologists, or urologists on mn. It might be worth trying to seek some advice on the health pages, Fuzz.
