hi. i suffer from PCOS and am particulalrly concerned about its link to developing type 2 diabetes.

I wondered if anyone knows whether removal of ovaries would be effective and or whether this can be done in UK? clealrly don't want them anymore for reproduction...

Not sure about the ovaries thing... I think PCOs has more to do with insulin prodution, and free androgens...what are you takign at the moment? Dianette?

Not all PCOSers will go on develop type 2 diabetes and not all PCOSers are insulin resistant. Symptoms of PCOS tend to be worse if you are over the ideal weight for your height.

Removal of ovaries will bring about an immediate surgical menopause with all its attendant side effects and problems. It is certainly not a recommended treatment for PCOS.

www.verity-pcos.org.uk is the website for Verity which is the UK based support organisation for PCOSers.

Metformin may be more helpful to use if it was determined that insulin resistance is an issue but again not all PCOSers have this problem. Dianette is often given to PCOSers with skin problems due to its anti androgenic effect (it dampens down the hormones).
