really bad groin/hip pain

I have been having really painful groin/hip pain for about the last 6 weeks. Clicks and 'thunks' when I move around. Going up stairs, turning in bed, pivoting, getting in and out the car, bending. Generally any movement takes the breath from me. I have even developed a limp to combat the walking pain.
Saw my new doctor who is convinced it is muscle related and waiting for a physio appointment.
I have had problems with joints 'popping out' when I was young. Probably still would if I didn't know my limitations. I had 'pubis symphis' with both pregnancies, things didn't really go back to normal as I still feel a clicking when I move sometimes.
I think this pain is more joint related than muscle.
Anyone with 'anything ' similar that can relate

Are you sure you aren't pregnant? A colleague of mine found out she was 20 weeks pregnant this way...

I bloody well hope not. I'm 50,so it would be a huuuuge shock to say the least.

Have had the same. Took some years before it got so bad that I paid to see local consultant. Took him two minutes to tell me that it was my hip. X rays confirmed it was bad and I had it replaced. However, you sound young and I was sixty two when this happened. Do you feel as if the hip is jerking down? Feeling as if it is disconnecting. Consultant told me that was because the hip joint had become rough hence the jerking and dropping sensation. Please, I don't wish to worry you as your doctor might well be correct. I would say that my doctor wasn't a lot of help and it took a polartis teacher to say she thought it was my hip. Doctor kept giving me painkillers and saying it was my back.

I am prepared to go to the physio, and hopefully he will report back to GP that it is not muscle. Gp has said he will get it x-rayed if physio doesn't find anything though.
As I said my shoulders used to pop out so I know that is what my hip is trying to do now. Feels like its clicking out of it's socket.
I don't want to spend forever going round in circles ( physio, pain killers etc) but I don't want to sound like a know-it-all with the GP either.
I don't think I am at the replacement stage BUT you never know.

I wish you well. It's good you have some plan of action. Don't let the G P put you off with endless painkillers. You need clarification in order to know what to do. The x ray should help to sort it out and if it is your hip they sometimes do a kind of smoothing, partial repair if you are young. They will put off replacements as long as poss. as they don't last forever. My daughter now has this problem as in our cases it appears to be genetic and she is holding out as long as poss. She is just 49.
