Vitamin supplements, what do you take? And do they work?

Hi all
Feeling pretty rubbish lately, I've got various ailments namely anemia, vitamin d deficiency, plantar fasciitis, sore knees and a dodgy neck/shoulder and I'm borderline underactive thyroid.
I take spatone for the anemia but thinking I may start to take a multi vitamin and some vitamin d.
Not sure what brand to go for don't mind if it costs a bit just want the best.
Thanks x

they are all the same.

but given that you have health problems please go to the doctor and ask for recommendations on both diet and supplements, in conjunction with medication.

some vitamins are toxic in overdose, some are just useless in overdose and some will reaction with medication.

Sorry to hear you don't feel well.

I take vitamin D, probiotic capsules and Evening Primrose oil.

I read that the amount of vitamin D in multivitamins is far too low.

I take vitamin d as I am deficient

SlinkyB · 29/05/2014 20:12

I was really run down a few weeks back, kept getting coughs, colds and a sore throat. The triage nurse at my GP's recommended Berocca so I took it every day for a fortnight, and now approx every-other (bought them on offer 3 for £10 at Asda).

I have felt much better since starting them, but don't know if it's psychosomatic /coincidence/luck or because I've started to get a bit more sleep due to 4mo ds2 sleeping more at night.

Agree if you're suffering you should see your GP. Get well soon Flowers

Thanks all, yes been to gp all they said was here's a prescription for some iron and buy some vitamin d over the counter! Didn't take the iron as already take spatone! The iron deficiency has been ongoing for 2-3 years now, originally my level was 8.8 took a year to bring it up to 10 then another year to 12 and was around 12-14 but just had another drop so back to 10.5. The planter faciitus Ive had for 18 months apparently it tajes ages to heal and the neck shoulder thing for around 6 months I, awaiting physio.
I sometimes have a Berrocca when I'm feeling like a cold is coming in and they are good especially if you wake up with a hangover!!
mrsb what vitamin d do you take?
Im just so pissed off waking up feeling shit and in a relative state of discomfort and pain all day!

Awaiting replies with interest. Sorry OP for being absolutely no help.

Are effervescent VITS more easily/speedily absorbed?

SlinkyB · 30/05/2014 01:36

I don't know Hex, but Berocca turns your wee neon yellow/green! Grin

Vitamin B6 have really helped with anxiety.

oohdaddypig · 30/05/2014 05:02

OP I think you need to look at your diet as much as supplements IMHO

If your thyroid is cranky, consider gluten free.

I had crappy health for a while and follow a guy called paul jaminet "perfect health diet". It's changed my life....

gobbin · 30/05/2014 21:20

Spatone has much less iron than tablets, the tabs will give you a lift much more quickly.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 30/05/2014 21:24

I take Bassets soft pastilles. The 6+ multi vitamin ones. They are great. I also have a separate iron supplement prescribed.
