Hello,

I am 27 weeks pregnant and feel very uncomfortable. My bump is very tight and I am constantly breathless. Is this normal and does anyone know of a way to get comfortable?

Many thanks

Hi there, I'm 25 weeks and notice the same although worse at than others. Is yours constant? Also, sometimes the tightness can be Braxton Hicks.

has baby moved/changed position?..could be pushing on your lungs?..ring MW for advice.x

the breathlessness is common as the baby is pushing up into your ribcage squashing your lungs - they eventually drop back down and you're not quite so breathy.
sounds a bit early for braxton hicks
maybe you're doing too much and just need to slow down?

Actually, BH can come on this early. Several of us on the December thread have already had them.

oh
didn't know that!

SH27.. I phoned NHS direct when I was really really short of breath (didn't have Mumsnet then!) to ask if it was normal, but they just called me an ambulance . When the ambulance turned up they were quite "indifferent" towards me until in the back of the ambulance when they took my blood pressure I mentioned that "No! Of course I didn't call an ambulance, I called NHS direct... they did!". They all burst into laughter and were really a lovely lot then, having had the reason they had raced across town to talk to someone calmly going "Well, huuurrhh, it's like this, huuurrhh, walked the dog and, huuurrhh I have, huuurrhh, been like this ever, huuurrhh, since"
Perfectly normal. Guess what sorted it? Laying in bed watching DVDs. If it is an option (i.e. no other children) do it!!!
(You will feel better when you get more lung space!)

Hi guys,

Thank you so much for your messages. It is so reassuring to know that I not alone. I think I will take Serah's advice and lie down and watch some DVDs.

It definitely seems worse after I have eaten too, so I think I will have to cut back on big meals for a while.

Oh the joys of pregnancy!!!

Thanks again everyone.

Sx
