Do those pelvic floor gizmos actually work?

I need to do something and fast, after two natural childbirths to uuuuuge babies, and a bit of laziness on my part, my pelvic floor is ruined.
I'm sick of wearing panty liners everyday and getting a sudden and urgent need to wee, usually at the most inconvenient time/place.
The worst thing is sometimes when I am hysterically laughing, sneezing or drunk it feels like I cannot control it and I fear I may have a major 'accident'
I'm sure many of you can empathise, so can you advise what i can do?
Are those 'trainers' that look like little weights worth trying?
Thanks.

P.S I would have namechanged but I'm so new to here I really don't care.

I've used the pelvic toner and that's good. You can increase the difficulty as the muscles improve.

I've just bought the pelvis tiner and so far have just looked at it!! I really must give it a try

Medulla · 01/09/2006 18:00

or indeed the pelvic "toner"

AvaLou · 01/09/2006 18:02

Is it worth it? Or should I just do the squeezes.

The squeezes WILL make a difference if you do them regularly. Using the toner helps you to do the exercises much more effectively by helping you to squeeze the right muscles. It's more like fast tracking your way !

kittywits · 01/09/2006 19:27

TBh everytime I think about the exercises I do a few squeezes Ilose concentration within a few seconds 'cos they are SO boring. With the toner you have to set aside a little time every day or so, so you are actually more likely to do them if you see what I mean.

AvaLou · 01/09/2006 19:34

Oooh I need a fast track, so will probably try it out.
I suppose it's not the kind of thing you can buy in Boots?

No, online is best, just type in pelvic toner. There is one shop that has minimal p&p so it's worth shopping around, good luck!

poppiesinaline · 01/09/2006 19:50

are they expensive?

kittywits · 01/09/2006 20:03

I think round about £30, it's a bit less than that but with p&p and all that.

riab · 05/09/2006 19:42

Get someone to show you how to do the exercises. I could hold the bloody thing in for ages but was still leaking wee every time I laughed. Then a good GF showed me that I was doing the exercises all wrong!

littleducks · 05/09/2006 20:28

they do sell them in boots, always reduced in my locals so worth a look

NotQuiteCockney · 05/09/2006 20:34

You can get a referral to a physio for this. A friend of mine actually works as a professional fanny trainer, dealing with postnatal continence issues. She says almost everyone just needs help doing the exercises properly. She says the gizmos only are worthwhile for the sort of person who needs their workouts very structured, so to speak.
