Restless legs

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 28/05/2014 10:14

Anyone got a sure fire way of dealing with restless legs, especially at night? I get this from time to time, and it really gets me down - I can't sleep, and feel like shit in the morning.

All tried and tested ideas welcomed - quack or kosher.

Thank you

Vitamin B/D and Magnesium can help. I find keeping my feet cool helps - much worse in hot weather.

Thanks Fuzz. Might give that a try.

Restless leg syndrome is often caused by anaemia (low ferritin levels particularly), perhaps get that looked into as a possibility.

I suffered HORRENDOUSLY with Restless legs before being diagnosed with anaemia. Since taking supplements, it's totally stopped. Maybe see your doctor and ask for a blood test.

Someone else in RL has recommended iron tablets. I think I will make an appointment with the GP. Though I've looked under my eyelids and they are nice and rosy, so don't think I'm anaemic.

It comes and goes - sometimes I get it for the odd night, sometimes for several nights on the trot. Sometimes not at all for months. I don't particularly notice it in the day time, though that might be because I'm concentrating on other things.
I've tried to correlate the episodes to lifestyle, diet etc, but don't see any common factors each time.

I also find it difficult to sit still sometimes, eg in the cinema. This isn't a leg thing, but could it be related?

If you feel it coming on before bed lie with your legs up the wall for a bit. Definitely helps me. I've also been known to do this in the middle of the night if I wake up and they're at me.

My restless legs were caused by anaemia. However, my SIL & BIL (related) are naturally figdety people - can't sit still and restless in bed too apparently. It's just something they have / no known causes. Their brother - my DH - on the other hand had no such problems. Unlike them he does a lot of exercise (weights, running, yoga) and is so tired by evening he never has the energy to fidget etc. Very still in bed too. When I exercised regularly I too never suffered restless legs.

I (along with all of the females in my family) suffer with RLS but since taking iron supplements for low iron levels I have felt a lot better
Mine would come on with tiredness, the low iron meant I felt fatigued quite a lot of the time so was going to bed at 8.30 just to stop the ache!
I'm like a new woman now!
My mum used to have a glass of tonic water with her evening meal and said it helped

Will def give the iron a try.

Magnesium works wonders for me, my iron levels are fine though.

I've had this for a long time and I'm not anemic. Keep your legs elevated on pillows and keep your feet and legs as cool as possible.
