Anyone who's had a breast reduction ?

Lepreporn · 26/05/2014 20:17

Hi I've just had a breast reduction and I'm worried I've made a terrible mistake.

I've gone from a 36 g to a 36 b size.
I wanted to be a c cup but an acquaintance of mine had the same op with the same surgeon and wanted to be a d cup from a j and ended up an e.
So I thought if I asked for a b then I would end up as a c .

Sorry if I'm rambling on. It's just my breasts seem tiny. And the rest of me looks bigger.
I'm only 10 days post op.
Can anyone advise me? Or did anyone feel the same way ? Thanks if you've read this much.

I remember feeling the same! Mine felt quite 'flat' at first but they drop into a normal teardrop shape over time. Just make sure you keep a tight sports bra on as that will ensure your stiches don't pull and scar.
A change so drastic does take getting used to, but it's worth it. Mine changed my entire life (I'm not joking).
Over time my boobs have grown back to a certain extent but they a more pert and the right shape for my body.

Lepreporn · 26/05/2014 20:27

Thanks for your reply. It helps to know that this is normal.
I was expecting it to be life changing. I just feel a little flat now pardon the pun.
The bras are getting me down too. I'm wearing the sports bra doc recommended 24/ 7 but it is very tight and uncomfortable.
Sorry for being such a whine I'm not normally like this.

It's a big operation, don't forget you're recovering from that too. I have some scarring where my stitches pulled as I took the sports bra off too early after the surgery. Just take this time to recover from the op. Don't look at yourself in a mirror but close your eyes and imagine yourself on a beach in a bikini or wearing little strappy summer dresses! I'm in the best physical shape I've ever been as I couldn't exercise before with my big boobs but I'm now run 10k races.
Ironically though if I'm going out I sometimes wear a push up bra! I feel more 'me' this way as my body is in proportion. The other good news is that your boobs won't droop so much over time so you'll have a decent pair for a good while.

Lepreporn · 26/05/2014 20:39

Thanks for that. I will def picture the bikinis I can wear. I'm looking forward to being able to run without giving myself 2 black eyes. Glad you're in great shape.

Do you mind if I ask you how the op went?

The reason I'm asking is because my DD2 who is 20, wants a reduction.
She is a tiny size 8 5 ft 2 girl.. and is a 28J . She hates them and with good reason.. constant back ache, they interfere with sport, and she has been assaulted on several occasions by men who grope her 'to see if they are real ' Angry

She is currently at Uni, and can't look at doing anything til she graduates, but it would be helpful to know if this is possible on the NHS..or rough costs if not. And what is the aftercare, scarring, pain like?

Can I ask?
All the people I know who have had that procedure have lost all sensitivity around the breast/nipple. Has that being the case for you too?

Universal · 27/05/2014 08:10

I had my op 15 years ago. I was only in hosp overnight and the pain was manageable. I had tubes under my arm to drain excess fluid which was uncomfortable and hurt when removed. I was at home doing nothing and on strong painkillers for about five days, and after that just took things easy.
I had my op on the nhs. It was a time when I couldn't research the surgeon as I didn't have the internet so I can only assume there is a wealth of info out there I didn't have access to.

Universal · 27/05/2014 08:21

The scarring is still visable. They cut under your breast in the natural crease and then in a line to your nipple. I still have feelings in my nipples and they react in the cold etc. The positives for me have more than compensated for the negatives. I would dread summer as I couldn't cover up in layers. My body looked out of proportion as I was only 5ft 3 and slim but looked so big on top.
I had avoided beach holidays with my friends and active holidays as they always got in the way and my back would hurt. I remember going diving and I had people trying to push them into wetsuit to zip it up. I laughed at the time but the day was ruined as I was so embarrassed.
I managed to breast feed when I had kids too. The flow wasn't very fast but adequate. Some people who have had this surgery struggle with b/feeding.
As I've said before it changed my life.

treaclesoda · 27/05/2014 08:27

I have very little visible scarring and no loss of sensation. I had it done about 15 years ago and they have actually grown back Shock but although I'm the same bra size as I was before they are nowhere near as heavy and uncomfortable.

I've mentioned this on other threads and been told that I've obviously put on weight but in actual fact I'm now the slimmest I have ever been and very active and fit, so it's not a weight issue. But it was still worth having it done.

I went from a 34F and specifically asked to go for as low a cup size as possible... He managed to make me a B cup.

Reason being is that over time ( and pregnancies/ weight gain or loss ) your breasts will potentially get bigger. I'm so glad I made the decision to go as small as the surgeon could make me as I did get pregnant again ( despite not planning more children when I had the OP ) and yes, my breasts got bigger again. Further weight loss and weight gain over the years didn't help!

I had the OP almost ten years ago now. I've been a stable 34C for a few years now.

So in my opinion I think you've made the right decision. The whole point of the OP for me was to lose the large chest and experience what it was like to wear size 10 all over as opposed to size 10 jeans and 14 plus tops and to be able to buy cheap bras!

Be kind to yourself and give this a good 6 months or so. You'll settle down and you'll appreciate a summer in strappy vest tops!

Watching this with interest as I intend to have a reduction. Can I ask if anyone has had surgery abroad and if so would you reccomd it.
Thanks

Lepreporn · 27/05/2014 14:46

I'm from Ireland. So can't comment on the nhs.
I got the op covered by my private health insurance. I had to tick a number of boxes to get covered.
I had to prove I was on pain killers off back pain
I had to have a bmi of 25.
I had to have a cup size bigger than an e

Thanks for all the positive comments.

How are you feeling lepreporn? Are you recovering ok from the surgery? Do you feel any different about your new cup size?

Lepreporn · 28/05/2014 14:10

Hi universal feel much better today thanks. Its 2 weeks tom since my op so still early days. I went shopping for the first time today and was able to buy a lovely size 12 top with buttons on the front. Unheard of in my previous size.
It's amazing what a bit of shopping therapy can do.

Universal · 28/05/2014 21:30

So glad to hear you are well lepreporn. I've been worried about you. Just make sure you take it easy. You have years of shopping ahead of you! Plenty of fluids and vitamins will help you recover.

Lepreporn · 28/05/2014 21:49

Thanks again. You are so kind. I've had a big rest for the afternoon.
