Under-active thyroid and trying to loose weight, anyone else struggling?

If been on thyroxine for about 2 years now and taking 125 per day.

If always been slim (size 10) but at the moment I'm about a stone overweight and really struggling to loose anything. It's really getting me down, I can't fit into any of my summer clothes and certainly not buying new ones -can't justify the £££-

Anyone else struggling with their weight? Anyone with amazing advice and make this stone disappear. Wink

Not the same but I gained after a nasty back injury and like you was about a stone over where I wanted to be. Eventually did Weight Watchers with a friend, dropped the weight in a few weeks and now still go to the meetings regularly.

It's not easy but very do-able if you get in the zone. I found the meetings so motivating. I'm sure we annoy lots of members in that we turn up to meetings looking slim but it's honestly what keeps is in check.

I'm on 125 as well. I know I should get it checked each year, maybe you need to do that? It's been really hard for me to lose weight but I've taken up walking (quite fast!) to work and back, 5 miles a day, and have cut down a bit on the sweet stuff. Half a stone lost, another half stone to go and feeling good. Kids are teens now so I have a bit more time to fit in the walking. Good luck, hope you find something that works for you.

I feel your pain. This morning I am exactly half a pound lighter than I was on Boxing Day - that's five months to lose half a pound with diet and exercise.

I suspect my thyroid is almost, but not completely properly medicated.

I was so glad to see your post. I don't know the answer but I haven't given up. I'm on 150 a day and generally I'm OK - think the dose is probably right. I have a nasty feeling that more exercise than I really want to do is the key - really admire you xyx for walking five miles a day! I've lost about 4 kilos since last summer and I think exercise, not too many carbs, lots of fibre and not drinking too much are all good. But it's really hard work.

Onesleeptillwembley · 27/05/2014 09:05

I'm on 150 also, and no carbing seems to have been the only thing that worked for me.

Iseecows · 28/05/2014 10:27

one might have to try that again but I then find myself taking it to the extreme and can't stick to it long term.

xyx well done and very impressed. I need to start exercising.

Thank you all for your replies it's nice to hear we are not alone.

There are days when I could do without a walk!!! My neighbour has really inspired me though - she is in cancer remission - and took up walking. She looks great, years younger. She's in her 40s.

Iseecows · 28/05/2014 20:42

xyx that's brilliant! what an inspiration.

My condition is totally opposite.
Thyroid is highly active and not able to put on weight. :-(

FourForksAche · 30/05/2014 07:54

yes, it's crap, I'm on 150 now and I think it needs increasing again, I'm so tired and cold.

Chiconbelge · 30/05/2014 18:29

That's not good FourForksAche sorry to hear that! The weather's looking a little nicer where I am this evening - maybe it will be a bit warmer this weekend. This time of year is tricky because you want to wear more summery clothes and shoes and suddenly you find you can't feel your feet!

FourForksAche · 30/05/2014 18:38

and suddenly you find you can't feel your feet!

yes! Grin

I'm 43 & I'm wearing granny bootees with fur inside FFS!
