I'm new to this site but was really lookin for some advice from other mums. I'm 23 and a FTM, my baby girl is now 5 month old. From giving birth I had a 2nd degree tear and quite a few stitches. The midwife said she had left a bit if skin, that I would be able to feel it but it would go away by itself. Anyway after 3 months it was still there and I was very aware of how obvious it was, so wouldn't let my partner near am because I now looked so different 'down there.' Anyway I went to my GP, who referred me to a Gynacologist, who booked me in for an operation to remove it. It's now 1 week since my surgery and although I'm still sore I managed to have a look today to see how things were doing.. Now this is TMI but there is now some sort of big, dark, black ball of skin, least I think that's what it is.. It looks awful and is almost big enough to cover my vagina opening!! I'm so worried now that the surgery has gone wrong and I'm going to have to go through it all again as it now looks worse then before.. I don't know if maybe it's just a really bad bit of swelling and bruising?! Has anyone gone through anything like this.. I would really love some support!!

I think you should go and have it looked at- can you get to a walk in? I'm not in any way medical, but could it be something like a haematoma (this is a sort of bruise under the skin after surgery - and it can look black and feel sore- men sometimes get them after a vasectomy - try googling and see if yours looks anything like the pictures of haematoma) maybe a blood vessel was nicked.
I don't think you will have to have it done all over again, I think it will probably go down gradually on its own. But I definitely think someone should look at it for you and give you proper advice - I may be entirely wrong! (You could also try ringing the hospital for advice since its only a week since your op.)

I've had quite a lot of gynae surgery and it could well be a haematoma - the bruising can be SPECTACULAR down there! You can also get a fair bit of swelling and this can take a good couple of months to fully go down. The scar might feel raised and a bit hard for a while too. But it should soften in time. What you see now is not what you will end up with!

Can you pop in to see your GP or practice nurse? They should be able to tell you if something looks amiss and whether you need to chase it up with the hospital. Do you have a follow up booked at the hospital in any case?
