Can anyone help with this mark on DDs face?

Hi,

DD has had mollescum for 12m+ now she doesn't have as many spots as DS had (he had over 100, all gone now). She is 20 months old.

We never squeezed or pricked any of DS's any they eventually went away after I used homeopathic treatment and lemon myrtle oil. He also didn't scratch them so doesn't have any scars apart from very tiny pock marks that are barely visible.

Unfortunately DD scratched the one which was on the side of her face back in February. It bled a lot and what remains is this strange red mark. It isn't a scar (I don't think?) but looks like damaged skin. It varies in redness during the day. Sometimes it is very pale then other times it is very red and angry looking. I have attached pics of it (the other scabs are chicken pox).

I was just wondering if anyone knew what this was? The GP didn't know and prescribed antibiotic cream initially which didn't help, followed by steroid cream which also didn't help. It has been over 12 weeks now and the mark doesn't seem to be getting better or going away.

Thanks in advance
TOOIK

Don't put steroid cream on her. It's so strong and she's so young that I expect it will fade in time. It's not that noticeable.

Thanks mrswinnibago, it is very odd - sometimes it is very faint then other times it looks very red and angry (right hand photo) which is what I am finding strange! If she is cold (or having a temper tantrum) then it is definitely worse

I suspect that has something to do with her temperature. Make sure you use sun screen religiously on it.....

Yes, I had read that was really important. I think it might,be damaged blood vessels from the scratched molluscum which may or may not go.away

It may be what is called over granulation where the skin has begun to heal but during it's delicate repair has been scratched so started the process again, try bio oil I used it on my DDs face and it worked well but! It does take time. This would make sense why the antibiotic/ steroid cream did not work.

Thank you. Do you think I.should ask for a dermatologist referral or,just watch and wait?

I would. It's been there long enough...at least it you see a derm you'll get a proper answer. Some surgeries have "Community Dermatologists" and that's a GP with a special knowledge...so not a "proper" Derm but they know a lot and you don't have to wait as long. You could ask about that.

Thanks. I don't think there is a community one as I was referred to a dermatologist last year and it took a few weeks to see one at the hospital. Given my Gp said he was baffled by it it is probably worthwhile getting it checked. Today I could barely see it then an hour later it was really red and obvious. Bloody molluscum!!
