I had dental surgery this morning, a few fillings, to begin with they tried drilling without numbing and it was very painful so then had injections, after that all was ok but now the injections are wearing off I am in a lot of pain ( mainly from one tooth I think ), is this normal? Have taken pain killers but they don't seem to be helping :(

normal, I'm afraid if you've had big stuff. Painkillers will take a while to kick in and you will be feeling it now as the anaesthetic wears off.

if no improvement tomorrow then contact dentist for advice. Hope you feel better soon, take it easy as this is quite a shock to the system.

Thank you, I have to back next week for the other side to be done and then my wisdom teeth are coming out ( in hospital ) the following week, feeling a bit sorry for myself Sad , hopefully the pain will eze soon! the bottom of my mouth is still numb almost 3 hours after treatment. I hate the dentist with a passion Angry.

Why do you hate your dentist? It would probably be more beneficial for you to find one you don't hate otherwise your trust is sure to be on the low side.

You don't have to stay with the same dentist, you can see anyone you like.

Nurofen with codeine is your friend.

I am an expert on this subject.

Last big filling I had - it was a replacement I'd had many moons again it was sore for a week afterwards and took ages to settle down.

Mrs M is right - find a dentist you like, I wouldn't let anyone I hated anywhere near me.

Sadly I hate any dentist ( I have a dentist phobia, hence why I ended up having to have lots done at once ).

Still a bit painful this morning, I think it maybe where they injected me ( feels very bruised ) plus I have a abscess which the dentist won't treat until next week.

I have to have one more filling next week, hopefully this won't be too painful and then having my wisdom teeth removed.

Sadly I can't take codeine, makes me very sick but am taking ibroprofen .

The only way I cope with the dentist is to religiously go every 6 months so I'm not hit with lots of work at once. Sometimes I go every 3 months of I'm particularly anxious. Maybe something you could do once you've been treated this time?

I think that's what I will do from now on, by the time I have finished having teeth out ( got to have 6 removed including the wisdom teeth ) I won't have that many left to look after, though I have all of my front teeth which I intend keeping. I will be keeping up with check ups from now on.

Marne, I feel your pain. Had a bottom double back tooth removed by general anaesthetic ten days ago. I'd not gone to the dentist for more than 6 years as too scared and now I need quite a bit of work doing. It hurt for a good week after being removed, but is feeling much better now. I too have resolved to get my teeth up to date with the work and then go every six months from now on. Wish you better
