Puzzled by what doctor told me

Last week DS2 was covered in spots. Not unwell or itchy but absolutely covered in biggish flat red spots.

Although he wasn't ill in himself I took him to the doctors because I needed to know if he should be in school. Doctor had a good look, was a bit puzzled and said it's probably viral but don't worry it's not contagious and he's fine to be in school.

So, how did DS manage to catch a virus that's not contagious? I am belatedly concerned because DN is currently under-going chemotherapy and my parents, who had contact with spotty DS, plan to visit him this week.

I don't know, but I didn't want to read and run.

I think what the doctor may have meant is that the rash is not contagious in itself as it's a result of the virus (DS gets these rashes often). The virus may no longer be in that stage once the rash comes out IYSWIM.

Under any normal circumstances I would say don't worry about it, but maybe give your GP a ring and ask the question. You don't want to put DN at risk.

Yes, mine have had post viral rashes. You may not have even been aware that he was fighting something off. Post viral ones are typical just reactions to the virus rather than contagious.

Again. I would just double check that your DN isn't at risk. I would think it was unlikely your parents caught anything from your DS, any more than they could from someone in the street so to speak.
