Copper coil, anyone had one?

Hi. I'm trying to find suitable contraceptive as I realise my withdrawal method is probably risky.
Problem is I don't like the feel of condoms and I've tried the pill, mini pill and injections but all give me monthly debilitating migraines. So I guess I need something that isn't hormone based.
The one option is the copper coil. Can anyone share their stories to help me decide? I have no idea what other contraceptive to use otherwise.

I've got one, and I've had no ill effects from it at all. It does the job, and I am totally unaware its there.

Unlike the merina, which turned me into a hormonal wreck of a mad woman!

It wasn't easy to persuade my gp to swap merina for copper, though. She was convinced that the hormones in the merina are at such a low level as to have no effect whatsoever (and totally ignored my question 'why are they there then?'). I had them swapped, and woke up the next day feeling like the fog had lifted.

I had one fitted recently - I've got a thread somewhere (coil tip: don't watch youtube videos!). It's still very early days for me, I haven't had a period yet, but so far I'm pretty chuffed, after the first few days of cramping from insertion it's been all good.

I had one and removed it after a few months. It gave me really heavy periods and very bad pmt. The day after I removed it I felt so much better, it really was t for me.

I'm getting one fitted on Tues, like you I really need to avoid anything hormone based so hoping this is the solution Smile

I had one for years on and off, not a problem. Slightly heavier periods but not terribly heavy.

I need to know....can I still use a mooncup with a copper coil? I never want to go back to tampons.

MollyBdenum · 16/05/2014 09:12

I've had one in for 3 years and have users a mooncup with no problems.

Well I went and had it inserted today. I'm having a period which I heard helps with the pain. The measuring of the cervix was the painful part, you get a sharp cramp deep in your womb but apart from some cramping today it's been ok so far.
However whilst googling I've now read horror stories about them getting lost and perforating the uterus and getting stuck on organs. Resulting in an operation to remove them!

Why did I have to read this stuff. I'm stressing about it now!

Had one for nearly two years now. Completely helped with peroid pain used to be so ill with it.

I had one for nearly 3 years, just had it taken out.

It was great, periods were a bit heavier and lasted slightly longer than before but it did the job.
