Acute hip pain, see GP or let it get better on its own?

Yesterday morning I woke up with terrible pain in my right hip, I think its from the socket. I had been lying face down with legs turned out, so I think I had twisted it in my sleep. It has been painful to walk unless I limp, as there is no way I can bare weight on it. The pain has continued today, and whenever I accidentally twist my leg it hurts like hell. I am just about managing to get around by putting weight on the other leg, and Ive taken painkillers.
I really don't want to go to the GP as its a fair walk and I really can't imagine what they'd be able to do apart from suggest rest, ice packs etc.

How long should I leave it before getting it seen to do you think?

If I were you I'd leave it for a few days and try to manage it with painkillers.

A couple of years ago I 'slept in a draft' and had a very painfully neck. I couldn't even move my head, couldn't sleep etc the pain was just agony. Went to the GP, he said, as you'd expect, painkillers rest etc. he was right, it did ease up but it took a few days, very painful.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks Smile
Im lucky enough that Im off work till Saturday so can rest it. Funnily enough this is the 3rd sleep-related injury Ive had. I wonder if Im a secret sleepwalker doing the splits at 3am or something Grin
