stitches in my face - any advice?

I had a bcc removed from the left side of my chin, quite a few stitches (inside and over). It looks very sore and is a bit red and swollen but I don't think it's infected.

I'm booked in to have the stitches out tomorrow, exactly 4 days after the op.

Is this right? It doesn't feel at all solid.

Eek

No knowledge or advice I'm afraid but I have one in my left nostril - initial maxillofacial appt next month - so I'll be interested to hear how yours progresses (I will need a skin graft I think to fill the hole)

Good luck with yours anyway. Surely they won't take the stitches out if it isn't stable?

Hi,

I'm not sure what a bcc is, but I had a cyst removed from my face last year and had a few stitches. I think I had them out after 5 days. Apparently facial skin heals very quickly, so leaving them in for longer could leave you with scars where the stitches themselves broke the skin.

I was worried about the scar being stretched or knocked. They put some surgical tape over it to support it for the next few days and I then ended up buying a roll myself (ebay I think - flesh coloured and barely visible) and wearing it for a bit longer.

Thanks.

Good idea about the tape - i too worry it will get knocked particularly by dangerously vigorous 4 year old DS. I trust the dermatologist who did the job and his assistant is taking the stitches so I'm sure I should relaaax...

I did read online that if you leave the stitches in you get more of a tramline scar, so maybe that's why he's booked me in to have them out early.

nicestsmile good luck with yours too, they are very concerned to give you the minimum scar possible.

Thanks, grasper Smile

Ah thanks.

The surgical tape did help me to feel more secure. And from about a metre away was barely noticeable.

BTW, my cyst was removed a year ago last week and the scar is barely visible now. I don't know if it made a difference, but I used Kelocote silicone gel on it every day (twice a day) for almost a year.

Thanks eurochick have just ordered some of that. The scar looks quite neat so I'm really hoping it won't be too noticeable Smile
