poor you
find yourself a tree trunk and rub against it or bather in calomine lotion or join the dots
Can't be much fun

Dannie · 22/03/2004 23:33

Ouch, poor you. DH had it before we were married. He was so ill his mum had to come and stay and make him soup (i was working abroad). He said the worst thing was that everyone laughed at him. He wants it to be rebranded with a more adult and sophisticated name so sufferers get more sympathy.

spacemonkey · 22/03/2004 23:36

someone said bicarb of soda was good for chuckenpox on the other thread

hugs misdee, i had it bad a few years ago, it's rotten!

go to doc and get zovirax

spacemonkey · 22/03/2004 23:38

also the really bad itching only lasted a couple of days for me

the worst thing was a) looking like a monster and b) really felt drained for a few weeks

take care of yourself, need lots of soup and pampering X

spacemonkey · 22/03/2004 23:43

and don't pick them!

emmatmg · 23/03/2004 07:02

Yes....Bicarb in the bath, (and I was also told a few camomlie teabags too)eases the itching and dries the spots.

Apparently if it's only a mild case you can get it again so maybe that's what happened to you Misdee. I expect DS1 will have it again because of this.

misdee · 23/03/2004 07:40

my mum said i had it bad, but i dont remember much about it as was quite young. i feel shattered and itchy. was hard to sleep last night. its only a few spots atm, i'm not completely covered, but i have a couple in my hair which are really annoying.

jampot · 23/03/2004 07:47

Apparently talcum powder helps to dry them out too!!!! As does a couple of bottles of wine each evening!!!

Hope you feel better soon Misdee.DD came down with it 2 days before dh and I got married (but very mildly) and ds came down with them exactly 2 weeks later (a really bad dose - looked like a 18mth old teenager!!!)

fio2 · 23/03/2004 08:36

POOR YOU MISDEE. iT IS VILE, MY DH HAD IT LAST YEAR AND HAD IT MILES WORSE THAN THE KIDS DID.

juniper68 · 23/03/2004 12:12

Poor you. I had it 3 years ago and have never been so ill. Oatmeal in muslin is good to use - you tie it under running taps and bathe in it.
get well soon x

Nome · 23/03/2004 13:56

I had it badly in my late teens (spots everywhere) and the doctor prescribed anti-histamine to help with the itching so I could sleep at night.

bundle · 23/03/2004 14:25

you can get aqueous cream with calamine in it, it is quite soothing

Coddy · 23/03/2004 14:30

poor you

lol at the rebranding though

stace · 23/03/2004 20:13

Poor you, i do wish you better, bicarb is supposed to be good and also oil of lavender is very calming and moisturing and calendular cream good for healing. Hope some of these remedies work for you!

misdee · 25/03/2004 21:55

sorry to go on, most of the itching has gone, but the ones in my hair are really really annoying. i have really thick hair and to put camolile lotion on them would seem silly and messy. is there anything i can do?

OP posts:
spacemonkey · 25/03/2004 21:58

I shamelessly picked the ones on my scalp as the scars don't show! Really sympathise misdee X

misdee · 25/03/2004 22:02

my daughter was combing my hair earlier and i had to tell her to stop as it hurt whenever she hits a spot. so instead she did a 'bug' check on her sisters hair.
