Cradle cap advice

Hello any tips on getting rid of cradle cap and how long it takes?

Depends how quickly you want to get rid of it and how 'natural' you want to be about it.

Dentinox Cradle cap shampoo (from Boots) is probably the quickest way but obviously it's just chemicals so if you don't like using stuff like that it's not for you.

Olive oil is what lots of people swear by. You rub it into the baby's scalp just before bed then gently rinse it off with baby shampoo and rub away the loosened flakes with a towel in the morning. It takes a while and you have to do it everyday and it also makes a bit of a mess of the cot sheets.

Depending on how much hair the baby's got you could also just wash their hair normally then comb it through in the bath and all the loose flakes come off on the comb. Again, it's another every night job and takes a while to go but I did that with my dd and it looked 100 times better after a couple of weeks or so.

The only thing to bear in mind is that if you are too enthusiastic picking off the flakes then you can cause infections where the skin's broken.

Alternatively, you can just leave it and it'll clear up of its own accord but it can look a bit yucky if the baby hasn't got much hair!!

Ds had cradle cap but he had lots of hair and it helped to cover it. I left it and it cleared up on it's own fairly quickly.

thanks for advice- he does have rather a lot of hair and I do massage his head with a brush gently but then can't get all the flakes out!
Tried olive oil but struggled to wash it out so used lots of shampoo and that aggrevated the cradle cap
Am trying dentinox - don't love the idea of chemicals but will maybe persevere with that

How old is he? TBH, I don't know if it's possible to get ALL the flakes. DD has just turned 1 and she still has a couple of tiny patches. It doesn't do them any harm, it's more yucky than anything else. I've read somewhere that it's caused by the oil glands on the scalp overproducing and the skin cells not shedding fast enough so it goes all gloopy. If you get enough of the flakes it doesn't look as bad. I found a fine toothed comb better for getting the flakes when her hair was wet because it lifted them right out iyswim.
