Achey glands?

For a couple of months I have periodically felt a dull pain/ache in my glands in both my armpits and groin.

I have also felt quite tired although I have been working quite hard at relaxing and getting lots of sleep and that has improved.

I suffer with Anxiety and went to see GP yesterday, because I was such a mess about it he seemed to dismiss the gland issue out of hand as the pain/ache is periodic and wasn't present at the time (typically) he checked my glands and they weren't swollen.

However it's still an issue I had some pain in my armpit today and I think my gland in my neck is up slightly, I can feel pain and stiffness near my left tonsil if that makes sense?

This makes me worry which isn't helping my anxiety which has started during a stressful house move and leaving my job.

I had a friend who died from Lieukemia (sp) last year and I think this is adding to my worry.

Would my glands hurt if I was just run down and stressed?

Do I return to the GP?

Thanks for reading Grin

Certain GPs seem to get caught up in the mental health/pain connection, and forget that sometimes mental health issues just coincide with other, unrelated conditions! Hmm

Having said that, I do think it's the anxiety that's making you jump from sore glands to leukaemia (and the loss of your friend makes that a sensitive issue, hard not to fixate on it). Almost any virus can cause swollen, painful glands, and there have been some horrible ones about this year. I had some weird thing a month of or so ago, where I had to change my pillow because the memory foam one was pressing on my swollen glands and hurting like billy-o. Hell, I even get swollen glands from a hangover, or when my hayfever's at its worst!

I suggest you make an appointment with the doctor... Maybe a different one at the practice if you think the one you saw is a bit dismissive. This time, you're going to talk about the gland pain and get a proper examination. Don't lead with your anxiety OR with wild speculations about what it might be: either gives a predisposed doctor an excuse to breeze past your physical symptoms.

I know it's a pain, and you shouldn't really have to go twice to get taken seriously, but surely it's better than sitting stewing on this for weeks or months?

Thank you I will go back again. I'm surprised he didn't reassure me a bit more about the gland thing. He talked about taking time out for myself and taking it easy and that house move Etc was v stressful.

If only he had explained that painful glands are normally nothing sinister, he didn't ask for other symptoms that could suggest glandular fever.

It was all about the anxiety, which has bend under control without medication for 7 years. But I was genuinely worried about it and it's what tipped me over the edge.

It does also ironically make me worry that if I had a serious issue I wouldn't get taken seriously in future Hmm.

But thanks, I will make and appt for next week Thanks
