'Splints' in foot?

I've just been to the walk in centre with a painful foot and been told it's 'splints'. I've been given naproxen to take 3 times a day and told to rest and use warmth to soothe it.

However, google is not helping at all- I can only find 'shin splints' and they don't sound like what I have.

Can anyone with medical knowledge give me any more information? I just like to know what I'm dealing with.

Hmmmm, it's not a term I've heard used in humans , but horses can suffer "splints and spavins" (usually over work on hard ground especially young horses)

Maybe they meant something like that- a strain or bruising?

(I'll have a Google and see what i shows up)

Did they X-Ray your foot?

strawberryangel · 05/05/2014 17:28

Thanks 70is, I'll google that. It's very painful today and I'm feeling utterly sorry for myself as I've not been able to go out with DH and the kids as walking hurt too much. Sad

Oh, they didn't x-ray it.

Well I've googled a little and that seems only to apply to horses. Thanks for trying though.

I'm very confused as everything I read about splints seems to link to people who run. I do not run. Also, the doctor said heat will help, not ice, but all the websites seem to recommend ice.

Strawberry, I also have had a painful foot, with no obvious cause. It started around the inside of the heel, but now it's painful on the top of the foot. It comes and goes - was nearly constant to start with and was waking me in the night.

Sorry, that's not helpful because I have no idea what has caused it, and have an allergy to doctors. :-(

Mine has got better slowly over about 4 months. I suspect it was an infection/inflammation, maybe plantar fasciitis?

Thanks for replying, Lemis. It's making me very miserable, I feel I've wasted a day when I should have been out and about with my kids. But it hurt so much I had to stay in with my feet up.

I know people have much, much bigger problems and I have no right to whinge, but I'm just fed up :(
