DH anaphylaxis reaction

My husband suffered an anaphylactic reaction to what we think was cashew nuts!! He is 33 years old and had ate nuts all his life and was just randomly snacking on some cashews and started itching and turning red, then his whole body was itching and he was starting to come out in hives!
I gave him some anti histamine we had in the medicine box next his lips started tingling and his throat so I said lets go to hospital and as reluctant as he was to go so glad we did!
He went into the triage room and was taken straight through as an emergency and given adrenalin and put on a drip and wired up to monitors, it was all very scary and happened so
Quick and we just got to the hospital in time.
Now he must carry epi pens at all times and assume he is allergic to all nuts while we wait for an appointment at the allergy specialist, this is all very new and there are no allergies in the family and it's just so strange as its not the first time he had nuts, the doctor said its rare to develop a nut allergy at his age but can happen!
Anyone have any experience of developing a sudden but allergy??
Thanks /)

It might be worth you posting this on the allergy boards.

Sorry to hear about your DH, it's a scary thing to happen

I dont think that it is all that rare tbh.
Agree the allergy board is good.

I was under the impression that you could develop an allergy to anything at any time in life.

I remember DFIL suffering an allergic reaction to a bee sting about 10 yrs ago when he was in his 70's. He had been stung before with no allergic reaction, but on the last occasion he developed the same symptoms as your DH. Fortunately his GP was able to administer adrenalin and monitor him for a while and he avoided the need to go to hospital but he now has an epipen in case it happens again.
