I'm in so much pain, ulcer or gastritis? Please help

I have had 4 babies, various operations etc but this pain has made me cry.
I've had a virus, I think with a few mild stomach pains and diarrhoea for a week but was feeling loads better on Thursday and we went out for a meal. As soon as I'd finished the pain started. By the time I got home I could hardly speak and was nauseous. Managed to sleep in the end, felt ill and weak all day yesterday , slept on and off all day. Went to gp who said gastritis gave me domperidone for nausea, omprazole (sp) for acid and buscopan

I ate a small sweet potatoe and some mushrooms and bacon at 5 pm and the pain increased again untill I was beside myself and crying. This is not like me. I was once accused of pretending not to be in pain to be discharged from hospital , by a consultant. I can handle pain but this was terrible.
I phoned 111 about 8 pm and he said it sounds like an ulcer. Told me to take gaviscon and codine. If no better in an hour to go to a&e.
it reduced the pain from about 9 to a 4-5 so I tried to sleep.

This morning it's back to a nagging dull pain, more manageable , but I still feel like crap.
Please will someone tell me how to cope with this? And what the hell to eat?
I'm really not a wimp, honest.

Quick update, after being told the pain and illness was definately existing gastritis and a stomach bug combined , I had an ultrasound of abdo yesterday.
The results were " an unhappy gallbladder which was contracted with one stone". The lady seemed convinced this was the answer, I told her I had been bodily unwell with a temp too and she said what she saw fitted with an infection in the gallbladder. Bit confused now.

Forgot to say, when the ultrasound thingy was pressing into my gallbladder it felt quite sore.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Have you seen a doctor since having the scan? Are they advising removal of the gallbladder? A low fat diet may help to relieve gallbladder attacks. Glad you are getting somewhere with a diagnosis, sorry to hear that you are still in some pain though

She said scan results will be with gp early next week and to go to see them for a referral to general surgeon. I wish I could be 100 % sure it was a gallbladder infection. Finally had the blood test requested by gp done today so that should be back then too. Though not sure ehat they will show.
Who decides if the gallbladder is removed? Any idea?
Thanks goingtobed.

All sounds like gallbladder to me as well. Your symptoms were me about 6 weeks ago. absolute agony and the most awful nausea. had 2 hospital admissions in the space of a week and my gallbladder out on the 2nd. It was as if a switch had been flicked - no pain, no nausea and 6 weeks later my energy levels are better than they've been in a while.

Go back to the GP, with all the symptoms inc the dark urine, pale stools and ask for a referral pronto. the laproscopic surgery can be done as a day case and the post-op recovery is straight forward.
ps if you get offered IV paracetamol, don't turn your nose up at it - it's a brilliant pain relief.
Really hope you feel better soon and get referred on

Agree that you shouldn't be hanging around with this, I also think that you should get back to the GP. In my experience, it was the consultant at the hospital (I was admitted via a and e) who said the galladder had to be removed. I had to wait a few months for the inflammation in the pancreas to subside before I could have the op, but I followed a low fat diet in that time and didn't have any more painful gallstone attacks.

Feel better soon, gallbladder pain is so grim.

gingeroots · 15/05/2014 10:43

Sounds awful . Bit surprised they didn't admit you to hospital when scan results showed infected gallbladder + stone + your symptoms .

Definitely back to GP or A&E .

Wishing you better .

Sorry not been back, have been having a totally shit time.
Me, dh and 3 dc have had bad gastro bug. Early hours of thurs I passed out enroute to toilet to vomit. Dh had to give me my emergency hydrocortisone injection. Later that day, dd1 was feeling sick and I was with her as she collapsed and had a fit. Phoned ambulance who took her to hospital to check her out but wouldn't allow me to go ( I know, obvious now but not at the time)
Anyway, she has missed her gcse exam on Friday and is devastated and I'm so disappointed for her.
It's made me think that what I was experiencing at the beginning of this thread was not a stomach bug. I think it was probably a gallbladder infection.
Still feel wiped out by latest illness and it doesn't help that dh was sick all day yesterday so could not help at all, poor sod. Dd1 is much better btw.
What a palava!!!

What a nightmare, you poor things!

gingeroots · 19/05/2014 11:07

So to hear this 14k .

Hope school are dealing with the missed GSCE - my understanding is that there is a procedure when someone is ill .

Wishing you all better .

BorisJohnsonsHair · 08/06/2014 20:03

14k how are things with you now?

BurningBridges · 08/06/2014 23:11

Bump - I'd like to know too, hope things are improving?

l4k · 09/06/2014 00:32

Hello,
Much better at the moment, thanks. Saw the specialist last week who said I had classic gallstone symptoms and sounded like an infection too. So gallbladder needs to come out. I've been eating low fat since the scan and have been ok so far.
Thanks to everyone who said it sounded like gallstones and to get scanned.
