What's the difference between vaporisers and humidifiers? Please help!

I know this has been discussed previously but I cannot find the thread. My 20 week DD has had a bad cough for about 6 weeks now. She coughs and then throws up her milk. The cough sounds very mucusy and 'wet'. The doctor says there is no infections so I am going down the homeopathic route but it is taking a while to find the right remedy.

I'm thinking about buying a vaporiser or a humidifier but I don't really know the difference (apart from about 30 quid!) and what would be best.

Please help mumsnetters! I'm getting so worried about my baby, I'm beginning to think perhaps it's asthma.

I've use a vaporiser for my ds2 several times and he's only four months now. He's had a cough and cold and had trouble sleeping. The one I use is VIVA breath easy and it's just a plug in one like the air freshener ones. Boots page . The vapour is very strong so I usually plug it in just outside his room so that he doesn't get the full blast. It does the trick because it opens up his airway.
