What are the rules please?
I'm fighting my second bout with Boots sachets of horrible stuff, cranberry juice drink, homeopathic cantheris(sp) pillules, water and peeing.
Also does it tend to make you feel crap and under the weather generally, because I am.

HotSauce - feel sorry for your plight! Bloody UTI is the worst. Hope you get better soon.
Could you checkout if you are having any immunity challenge...as it causes recurring UTI like yours.

HotSauceCommittee · 30/04/2014 16:56

Artistic, I've always been prone, but I've been shagging lots in the past year or so, so I'm getting UTIs a lot more. The Dr I saw today is referring me for further investigations. Not looking forward to it. I think they are going to poke around inside my bladder.

HotSauceCommittee · 30/04/2014 16:57

Thanks Artistic, thanks for your get well wishes BTW.

HotSauce - you are welcome.

Yes your reason is absolutely right. Was the same for me whenever I got a bloody episode.

Cure = more kids, less sex! Grin

Have different antiBs for longer. Have invested in cranberry and probiotic capsules from the health food shop.
Feeling much better.
Hope all fellow sufferers do soon too.

Hope all are feeling better soon. Know exactly what you're going through.

I got really ill, cold and under the weather - could spot the signs of an attack early.

I've found having DD helped though having kids is an extreme cure :). Prob less sensitive down there (and less sex nowadays). I go for Xylitol and try to drink lots all the time. Otherwise trimethoprim seemed to do the trick in the bad old days. Avoided cranberry - just made things a whole lot worse.

I have recurring cystitis and have had since I was about 13 (am now nearly 34). I was referred to a urologist after several rounds of antibiotics. I had a scan which showed nothing structurally wrong so they put me on long term cefalexin. I am prescribed bucket loads of packs of it at a time and take one a night and self medicate to a higher treatment dose if I feel I am getting an infection.

It works for me. I rarely get infections now and am generally very well. I have taken the antibiotics for the last 20 years with no side effects and through two healthy pregnancies.

If anyone is suffering as I was please do take the antibiotics and get referred to a urologist via your gp and hopefully get on some long term antibiotics. Cranberry juice and capsules and everything else never did anything for me.

Does anyone know if you are supposed to feel this tired when taking Nitrofurantoin? I've hardly moved. Most of yesterday in bed, slept through last night and haven't done anything today either.

I generally feel pretty rough when taking it Hot but it's the only one that works for me. Make sure you keep eating - if I don't I get stomach ache, and feel sick. It has actually made me vomit in the past.

miserable indeed, my sympathies.

won't talk about the spanish fly stuff as if I tell you the truth it will stop working! Yes, cystitis will make you feel generally below par.

the basic rules are

  • he washes before sex
  • you pee before and after. NEVER have sex with a full bladder or bowel
  • you can even wash properly after, pour a jug of water over yourself while seated on the toilet.
  • if you are prone, go easy on the tea, coffee and fruit juice. Not too much bubble bath. Whenever you can, go commando under a long skirt. airflow is king!

if you get an attack, head for the bathroom with a lot of water. Pour it down your throat by the litre. In about half an hour it will start going through. Keep drinking. This means an uncomfortable few hours by the toilet but it will eventually ease. As you will want to urinate continuously, at least give your bladder something to work with.

if it does not ease, you must get medical advice, you cannot mess about with this.

get well soon.
