ear infection in a very miserable 30 something woman

So last Wednesday I start with wheezing and itchy ears, Thursday pain in ear, deafness, very spotty. Friday, in so much pain, pressure in head, crying like a baby in the dr Hmm
I have got a very nasty ear infection and because I have a history with this ear I was prescribed erythromycin
I have coughed up and got rid of loads of green stuff
Ear keeps popping but still isn't right
Still a tinny sound in my ear
I have one day left of anti biotic and I am still having to take nurofen
I feel like I want to just sleep

Is this all normal or do I need to go back to the Dr? It's been 6 years since I last had ear trouble and Dr has insisted I rest (I have a very severely disabled teen who I care for, so I am doing nothing but that iykwim)

I am sniffing plans oil, have a small hot water bottle to keep putting against my ear.

Does anyone have any advice? I feel such a baby. The popping is making me dizzy which isn't helping, though I assume popping means the mucous has moved/is moving?

I had a terrible ear infection last year and had 2lots of ab's and ear drops.
For the pain I took soluble paracetamol and codeine and used a hot water bottle to help with the popping I used sudofed and breathed in steam.
It is miserable and you have my sympathy.

maudpringles · 29/04/2014 18:23

Oh and I was prescribed something to stop the dizziness!

Poor you - sounds miserable for you.
My ds has had lots of ear infections from very young and still gets them even though a late teen now. He cries with the pain of it sometimes and is no baby, so you have my sympathy.
If your ear is still painful I would say a trip back to the Gp is called for as it sounds as if the ongoing infection is still causing pressure in your ear.
Sounds like you are doing all the right things to help it feel better. Ds got most instant relief on the occasions that his ear drum spontaneously burst thus releasing the pressure (and lots of gunk out of his ear). It has always healed ok and his hearing is unaffected.
Hope you feel better soon. Is there anyone who can help out at home so you can rest up a bit more?

It sounds as though you may need antibiotic drops as well as tablets.

You have my sympathy ear infections are dreadful.

PoshPenny · 29/04/2014 21:05

I would go back to GP, like earlier poster sounds as if you need more antibiotics plus ear drops to blast the thing away. I feel for you, it's the worst pain I've ever known.

Thanks, I will make an appointment and go back :(
To make my falling to pieces worse, I have just been bitten by something (I presumes insect as there is a small hole) and have a swelling like an egg on my shin. I am falling to bloody pieces.

Ha at any help/support off people. Dh is good, he will get up early to get dd ready before work but he has only just started a new job so can't have time off really. I have however ordered takeaways and given up on cleaning Blush

My temp went up to 38 earlier too, so I presume that still means there is an infection?
