4 inch Kidney stone, oh the pain.

I can't sleep, no sleep for the last three nights.
I have a 4inch kidney stone. I'm in so much pain with it, morphine controls it a bit, though the side effects are not great.

I currently have a kidney drain which is attached to a bag on my side which drains the kidney, the bag sprung a leak again today which left me in a puddle of my own wee and the district nurse coming out twice today.

I've been struggling with this since January when I spent two weeks in intensive care after the first attempt to remove it went so horribly wrong.

sepsis, multiple organ failure, level 2 respiratory failure, pneumonia a trachiostomy and a nephrostomy bag. By all accounts it's amazing that I lived. There are very few people who are alive to offer their experience.
This is my third stone, I've had them at ten year intervals. I agree they are the most severe pain ever.
I'm waiting for another operation which I'm extremely anxious about.

Come and distract me/tell me your stories of your next door neighbours long lost cousins neighbours child's teacher who had this, survived and recovered.
Or just make me laugh.
I've also posted this in health but it's very slow there.

OMG, you poor thing. Are they doing anything to try and break up the stone?

can't compare, but I had gallstones a few years ago, teeny tiny sludgy ones that would move and block things for days on end, and that was hideous enough.

Zebra
They did try the no surgical laser treatment lithotripsy, they said it would take around five 45 minute treatments, one treatment per fortnight.
I've been three times now and they refused treatment each time as I tested positive for a UTI, given the sepsis etc last time, they don't want to risk it happening again, funnily enough neither do I.
I've seen the consultant who suggested the surgery had a pre op meeting with him and have a meeting with the anaesthetist on Thursday as I'm a complex case apparently!
