Pain six months post childbirth

Hello all,

My baby is almost six months old, the delivery was assisted by forceps and an episiotomy.

They spent about an hour stitching me up. I've been left with two gaping holes where the stitches were externally. These are not as much of a problem as the pain internally during intercourse. Penetration that is anything more than shallow is really painful.

I've been to my GP who has said the external gaping holes aren't a problem (to her, obviously!) and has referred me on to have the inside looked at! fun!

Has anyone else had anything similar who can tell me what was causing it?

Sex was very painful for me until about 8-9 months after. It did ease on its own. I had some internal tearing and episiotomy which seemed to heal fine of its own accord, despite the discomfort which continued for several months. I still get the occasional twinge, have no idea why. Not much help I know but I wish you luck for your referral hopefully they can offer some insight.

I saw a physio for the internal pain - it turned out to be muscular caused by the pregnancy rather than the episiotomy. I'm still amazed by the results, she was brilliant. My gp didn't suggest it though, it was my hv. I'm so glad she did. Try and get a referral to a physio. The other issues sound separate tbh and I'd be seeking another opinion on that.

I had a third degree tear almost six months ago when my son was born. I have also found it too painful to have sex, am unable to insert a tampon and am struggling with incomplete bowel movements. I saw my GP and have been referred on but the appointment last week was cancelled. But from what I can gather I think I have a prolapse of some sort, maybe a rectocele?

It's so hard because you don't know what's normal and what isn't after childbirth. And at your 6 week check you don't have a bloody clue what's what anyway! Well done on going to your GP. It's not easy! And she sounds like a bit of a bitch. If it bothers you then it's a problem. And hopefully your referral will come through quickly.

There's another thread on here with loads of people going through similar things, have tried to post a link to it...
