MRI Scan--how much please?

Does anybody happen to know how much (roughly speaking) it would cost to have a MRI scan done privately?

Thanks.

about £900 for a head and neck (2 scans one after the other)

iota · 23/08/2006 18:46

that was in Bucks BTW

lionheart · 23/08/2006 18:50

Thanks. I forgot to say it's a spinal/back scan that is needed. Do you think it also depends where you are in the country?

just thinking that London could be more expensive

The scans take different lengths of time as well, so I guess that would be a factor.

I presume that my cost would be a rough guide for you though

iota · 23/08/2006 18:56

just copied this:

The guide price for an MRI scan ranges from £600 for a single body part scan and from £900 for a multiple part scan

from here

iota · 23/08/2006 18:59

and

£740 for a single body part scan to £1,500 for a multiple part scan here

Er no, I had one done in the West Midlands for a head injury and it was £250/300, approx. Can't remember exactly because now I have memory problems Last two years anyway. Which bit do you need scanning because if it's really urgent it should be done within six weeks. Long story but my dad had one done too. HTH

smoggie · 23/08/2006 19:23

I had one done about a month ago in the NE and it was 250 quid exactly - it was of my neck. Not sure if its more if you get full body / multiple parts though. Best thing to do is to ring your local hospital's MRI unit and ask. THey usually run the private clinics directly from there and all the associated admin. In our case, I was seeing a surgeon privately, but when it came ot having the MRI i paid the hospital directly not the surgeon.

That's very useful indeed, Iota. It's an expensive business though isn't it?

It's for my sister, Jollymum, she took a fall in the Winter and has had quite a lot of pain since then. Made more complex because she has MS and her back pain is effecting the way she walks and her posture etc. (She's ben told to wait two months just for the consultant appointment, let alone the scan itself).

well luckily for me I have private medical insurance so it didn't actually cost me anything. Looks like there is a huge variation in cost though from some of the other posts.

I guess ringing around is the best answer

iota · 23/08/2006 19:42

are you anywhere near Cheltenham bargain cost here £198

Sounds like the perfect excuse for a day trip, Iota. The variation is surprising. I'll check out some web sites ....

Thank you Iota, jollymum, Smoggie and noonar.

There is a group of consultants in Hereford (uk) offering one part MRI scans for £200 fully inclusive with a copy of the scan on CD and a consultant report. Two part scans cost £300. The income supports the local NHS hospital.
Their website is uk-radiology.co.uk

lulumama · 11/02/2007 13:54

DH had one about 4 years ago, on his back, was around £550
