How do you feel?
I ask this because i get a good 8 hours every night but still i wake up feeling as though i could just sleep and sleep. Went to bed t 8:45 last night! Felt just the same at 7am this morning.
I never see a film to the end in the evening and have tried sleeping in the afternoon (makes no difference) The worst of it is, both ds are now at school and i only work 2 days a week.
I exercise, eat healthily, don't drink or smoke. I have headaches more days than not too. Was wondering whether i should see the doctor. get terrible pmt aswell and this makes me even more tired. Help!

Well I never leap out of bed full of enthusiasm put it that way. But I don't feel as knackered as you sound. You could try multi vits or korean ginseng which is a natural pick me up thing. Would tell your GP about the headaches though. Could you need glasses?

katierocket · 19/03/2004 14:06

could be a food intolerance (yes honestly)

I felt like this alot linzoid and recently saw a nutrionist. She said I probably had a wheat intolerance (which I'd never even considered) and although am quite sceptical about these things, it has been a revelation. Loads more energy.

prufrock · 19/03/2004 14:15

Could also be a liver problem - it's meant to clear all your toxins out overnight, but if it doesn't you wake up in the morning still feeling crap. Rather than see your gp try a homeopath - they are very good with non specific things like this.

M2T · 19/03/2004 14:18

Katierocket - Thats what I thought too.... Food intolerances can make you very groggy.

Or perhaps you're slightly anaemic? Maybe you need your iron levels checked out. In the meantime why don't you take some iron tablets for a couple of weeks a see if that makes a difference?

linzoid · 19/03/2004 14:19

forgot to mention that i dream like crazy all night too ( well seems like it to me) Wake up feeling like i've been to about 10 different places!

OP posts:
Evita · 19/03/2004 20:31

linzoid, if you're dreaming a lot or rather aware that you're dreaming a lot that means you're waking quite a lot in the night, therefore not getting a deep night's sleep. Rather than seeing it as something physical, do you think something's troubling you mentally? Stress and depression can make you feel very tired and cause headaches and general achiness. Just a thought.

kiwisbird · 19/03/2004 20:42

I usually curse, if tea appears before I wake then I can be seen to smile from time to time, but more usual is a grunt
I always feel like rubbish no life no soul, yes I know I have low iron but even after multi vits and iron I still feel dazed and confused
Better after stopping drinking alcohol though I must confess

Coddy · 19/03/2004 20:43

is your bedroom too hot?

they reckon a cooling body temp bring s on good sleep

charlieplus3 · 19/03/2004 20:48

im the same im afraid. Thinks its cos i wake alot during night. ears permantkly on stand by for kids. Plus dream alot and at least one wee wee.

May try the iron or the ginsing! But like kiwi im fine after a cuppa or two actually and a dose of Trisha

lavender1 · 19/03/2004 20:58

linzoid, dreaming is a sign that your mind is getting chance to relax although being tired after lots of sleep isn't ideal...have you been tired for long? ie. is it since your children have been at school or has it been going on before this?.........don't want to get too personal but what sort of dreams are you having (have been analysing mine for about 5 years and found them really revealing) apologies if being too nosey.

lavender1 · 19/03/2004 21:07

Have been too nosey, forget the last message.

stupidgirl · 19/03/2004 22:12

Could you be depressed?

I do think it's possible to have too much sleep sometimes too.

Have to say that I always wake up tired. I have low blood pressure and I think it's probably linked, but I don't get enough sleep either. I have one late night or 2 late nights and then no matter how many early nights I get I can't seem to get over it. I am pretty much permanently tired

Anyway, nuff of my problems, this is your thread. There are several suggestions there worth checking out.

stupidgirl · 19/03/2004 22:13

I don't mean my suggestions, I mean everyone elses, just in case that wasn't clear. IYSWIM....

Sunshine123 · 19/03/2004 22:53

linzoid - sometimes too much sleep can have the knock on effect of making you feel very lethargic? I know that if i have a good nights sleep i ironically feel worse than if i've gone to bed late and had an early start. It could also be all those years of overtiredness catching up on you! See the doctor if your worried

princesspeahead · 19/03/2004 23:35

actually linzoid, your description sounds exactly like when I had glandular fever. I don't think it is normal to sleep 11 hours a night and still feel like you need a nap in the afternoon... but that is what I was doing when I had it. I think you should go to the GP. He/she can check out gf with a blood test and may have some other ideas as well.

Is Countessdracula out there? she has GF at the mo and may be able to shed further light?

jac34 · 20/03/2004 07:46

I think it's proberbly a good idea to go to your GP and get checked out, just to put your mind at rest that it's nothing physical. It could be something simple like anemia ???
If it is nothing physical, then perhaps you should be useing the time that the kids are at school, to relax more.
Are you always rushing around catching up on the days your home ?? Try and do more for yourself !!

eddm · 20/03/2004 08:39

Linzoid, please do go to see your GP. This could be the first sign of a physical illness that needs to be treated. Or it could be due to a number of other causes that have already been suggested - depression sounds like a possibility. But you need to rule out straightforward physical causes. If you are ill, either physically or mentally, you need to get this investigated before it (possibly) gets worse. I have a medical condition that causes similar symptoms (would rather not say what it is if you don't mind) but would never have known about it had it not woken my dh who saw what was happening. I don't want to scare you, but please do go to your GP if only to put your mind at rest. If there is something wrong here, there is effective treatment available ? no point trying to struggle on on your own without any help.

eddm · 20/03/2004 08:41

Another thought ? feel free to email me via contact another talker. I'd rather not mention my condition here and it probably doesn't apply to you but if you do want to rule it out happy to talk.

lydialemon · 20/03/2004 09:59

Get your GP to check your thyroid levels, if its underactive you can get the symptoms you describe, including the PMT ones. Before I was diagnosed I got quite scared as to how tired I was - I would spend all day on the sofa because I simply didn't have the energy to do anything else. Hope you sort it out soon.

Joshjunior · 20/03/2004 22:22

Would second the thyroid check. I was convinced mine was underactive as I had all the symtoms but my blood levels kept coming back as 'within normal limits'. What I then found out was that they were only just within normal limits. My Gynae chap agreed that I should try a very low level of thyroxine - low and behold new person and also got pregnant within two months of being on it having been trying for 4 years! Good luck and hope you are feeling better soon.

KPB · 21/03/2004 09:58

Linzoid, I feel exactly the same. Have no desire to do anything, housework, just feel so tired all of the time. Have just started taking these herbal tablets called Quiet Life and am feeling slightly better. I usually feel this way in the winter and then once the summer comes all of my energy reappears. I wish I was a tortoise then I could hibernate for the winter!!! Maybe I am suffering from SAD syndrome!
Both of my children are at school all day and that just makes me feel worse as I do not have an excuse to feel tired, but I do.

carlyb · 21/03/2004 13:44

Watched this sleep programme once. On it they said that if you sleep in the fetal position you could restrict the flow of oxygen that you get all night. You sort of crush your airwaves. therefore you awake feeling exhausted because you have been taking shallow breaths all night. SO the best way to sleep is on your back with your chest stretched.(they explained it much better!)

I tried this - but am like you and dream alot and wake up in different positions.
This could be rubbish - but if you explore other options and still have the problem - worth considering?!

CountessDracula · 23/03/2004 11:23

Linzoid I think PPH may be right - that's how I felt/still feel some days with my Glandular Fever. Get them to do you a blood test for it.

handlemecarefully · 24/03/2004 08:12

Linzoid - have you been to the doctors yet to get this looked into?
