Urine sample from non-potty-trained 2yo??

Does anyone know how I can collect a first morning urin sample from a 2yo? We need one for his allergy tests tomorrow, apparently. He was only 2 on Saturday and isn't trained at all. I've given him a potty to sit on and play with but he's never shown any interest in weeing in it, and I haven't pushed him, because I think he's too young. Does anyone have any idea how I can get a wee sample from him, and will they still be able to test him for sesame seed allergy if we turn up without one?

Follow them round and catch it in the container. . Done it with all 3 of mine before toilet training and its the only way. If they're not toilet trained its hard to get a proper first of the day, but I just made sure no drink/breakfast was given until we'd collected something. m

Ask the chemist if they have an adhesive sample bag you can use inside his nappy. You then collect, detach and snip the corner to transfer into a sterile container.

We never managed to get one of those, all we were offered was something that soaks up urine, so no use. They only seemed to do adult sizes.

Greensleaves, you CAN get sample bags for toddler boys from your G.P. My ds2 who was 2 in May, my G.P. gave me some of these bags so he could test for a urine infection. They were very easy to use, my son didn't even feel it when I took it off.

I have a spare, sealed bag you can have if you CAT me your e-mail address and details. I could post if off for you today if it's any good to you.

It is called a U-Bag by the way. HTH

had to get a sample from my 21 mth old yesterday and was given a sterile pad (looked like a st) - had an adhesive stip on back and i stuck it into his nappy and waited. was given it by the hopsital - wonder if the gp would have one? very easy indeed!

Jimjams2 · 23/08/2006 11:47

I don';t think the pad is any good for allergy testing (that's what we were offered with ds3 from the GP - we needed a sample for the autism research unit- similar to allergy testing) and they said it wasn't any good for that. If you can get a bag I would go for that, although catching it is easier than it sounds (we needed mid stream which was an advatage of catching it).
