ANOTHER St johns Wort Thread

Hi everyone - I know this has been discussed before but I really appreciate any views.

To cut a (very long) story short I was on seroxat for 4 1/2 years for anxiety based PND but for 2 of those years was trying (and failing) to come off.
6 months ago i swapped to prozac and am now on 8mg prozac liquid and reducing by 1mg at a time - plus also having to take 2mg valium per day because prozac makes me feel more anxious.
So all a bit of a mess really.

Anyway - the aim is to be off the prozac (and valium) if at all possible over the next 2 months and its been suggested that I then go onto St johns Wort for a few months as a 'cushion'.

Any thoughts / advice welcome.

Hi Gloworm thanks for that.
Quick question for you and juniper - does the one you have contain lemon balm (mellissa?) Juniper - or is there a bioforce one that just includes SJW.
Thanks Kizziex

hi kizzie,
mine's just SJW

kizzie · 18/06/2004 20:49

Thanks juniper - im going to try give the kira ones another week. 1/ because Ive already bought them and 2/ because thats what the SSRI charity has advised but after that think Ill have to swap if no improvement.
Thanks for all the info.
Glad things going so well,
Do u mind if I ask quickly how you actually found cipramil??
If I cant get all this sorted out then thats one of the drugs my GP has suggested. (Sorry if youve told me this before)

I found them fine kizzie. They definitely helped me and I know a few who are/were on them and they say the same.

Hope the SJW kicks in soon though.

Just wondered how you're doing Kizzie?

BTW my SJW is holland and barretts own make not bioforce. I only just noticed

Hi Junpier - thanks for asking. unfortunately things have got increasingly bad and dont know what Im going to do. I've never had depression as bad as this (was put on seroxat for anxiety/panic attacks). Not really getting any help from the drs. Hope the SJW is still doing the job for you.

Awwww Kizzie, I'm so sorry to hear that
Can you go to another doc or have u tried them all in your surgery?

Have you tried cognitive behaviour therapy? I know it's expensive but they're some good books on the market if you have the energy to study them. I know with depression it can be difficult to concentrate for some of us.

I hope you find a sympathetic doc soon. Keep talking even if it's on the net.

How's your diet if you don't mind me asking?

Juniper - Just to let u know DH went to see the GP this morning after a horrendous weekend.
She said she was sorry that she hadnt been more help last time and was really really supportive.
Im starting a v v low dose of an old fashioned tricyclic to see if its any help. (Theyre trying to keep me away from SSRI's at the moment - but if that doesnt help then will probably try me on cipramil or lustral). The SSRI charity are convinced its still withdrawal but Im too ill to care now and just need to get on some kind of even keel.
Re. food - obviously not much appetite at the minute but do try and eat good stuff and also take a multi vit/min and fish oil.

Anyway thanks again for asking Juniper. I may be back to you at some point to ask more about cipramil....
