lump in baby girl's "breast"

I've just felt a bump under DD's nipple which is either new or I haven't noticed it before - very much in the place where lumps develop when teenage girl breasts are growing iyswim. Just on the one side. Does this sound sinister? Anyone encountered it before? She is nearly 5 mo. grateful for thoughts...

Both my girls had lumps under their nipples i'm sure it's just hormones.

On both sides amyjade?

I think so ? Dd2 is 14 months so i can't really remember.

Hi

My little boy had that exact same thing. At 5 months as well. It was not painful for him, but was a very definite lump. Took him to the doctors and he ended up having an ultrasound scan on it but it turned out to be nothing. They just said it was my hormones still in his system. I though that was weird after 5 months, but sure enough it just went away. Maybe get it checked to be on the safe side, but am sure it is nothing....

Breast buds are caused by your hormones, still in the baby's system. They're nothing to worry about - but if you're still concerned see the GP to put your mind at rest.

Kidstrack · 22/08/2006 21:25

my dd had this for a few months and the health visitor said it was hormones still present from the mother, my friends dd had to have hers lanced but it was a small tiny cut and this was only because it had absessed

Thanks aj and amm, I think I keep worrying because she has a little lump under her scalp as well which the GP said was probablya cyst but nonetheless I've become very lump-conscious...

Ah , too slow, that is very helpful indeed WWB, although the tone of Dr G is a bit creepy! thanks very much - feeling less anxious.

I did try to find a link that was less ... erm ... American in tone but didn't find any that were as informative!

Yes krabbiepatty, this sounds like exactly the same thing we had with my DD when she was aged 6 months, we had a number of hospital visits & visited various departments but they all concluded that it was "just one of those things" and was not a problem. They just advised that I keep an eye on the lumps and come back if they changed - which they didn't/haven't. She's now three & a half and there is nothing wrong with her. So it probably is nothing but get your DD checked if you still need to put your mind at rest, the docs & hospital did take me seriously & I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

krabbiepatty · 22/08/2006 21:35

No, that was extremely kind WWB. I'd rather be haunted by Dr G's spooky prose than my own fears...

Where are your daughter's lumps HVDY, in both breasts or elsewhere?

She had quite pronounced lumps in both breasts which just didn't feel "right" although I had no frame of reference as my first child was a boy, but I asked around friends with similar aged girls and they all agreed it was unusual enough to have checked out.

HTH!
