Could this be DVT? Should I call OOH?

Last week when shaving my legs I noticed a large soft slightly swollen area on the outside of one calf. It's soft to touch and large/ diffuse, as if water had accumulated under the skin. When I poke it or press hard it feels no different to the other 'normal' calf. Hardly noticeable to the naked eye, no pain, no redness.

Thought nothing of it for the last week but have just googled and panicked myself thinking its a blood clot. Should I call OOH or am I panicking unnecessarily? I have a GP appt booked for next Wednesday.

It wouldn't do any harm to ring and check. I am not an expert, but I have had a DVT. In my case the clot was behind my knee, but the red swollen area was at the bottom of my shin. It was very sore, almost unbearable to stand on and was hot to the touch. The skin was shiny as it was so swollen. Oh and I was at risk as I had just delivered my baby a couple of days earlier.

Yours sounds very different, but as I say, I'm no expert.

Still the same today. Lipomas did come up on Google as well as soft tissue cancers. But it feels too soft diffuse to be a tumour, surely that would be a proper hard lump...

I know, I really really need to step away from dr google.

Get away from google!! It's probably harmless. But I would phone your GP and tell them you've found a lump and want an appointment today. Insist if necessary. Then you can put your mind at rest.

Just returned from gp. He didn't know what it was, said maybe a lipoma. He said wait and see if it goes away, if not he'll refer me for u/s. Didn't seem to be too worried, but he's not the most reassuring straight talking doctor. Still, better than nothing?

That's reassuring- so it's definitely not a DVT. If he thought it was at all sinister he would refer you, so I'd relax about it and see how it goes for a week
