Can I really still have this sinusitis bug after FOUR weeks?

That really. Had Amoxicillin, didn't work, got rid of it for a couple of days earlier this week but headaches, nausea, crapness back. Just started with Doxicyline, someone pls tell me this will end Hmm

If go back to the doctor. Sinusitis was the worst prolonged pain I have ever experienced. My overall health started to improve once I committed to eating healthily and also started taking vitamins.

I believe most sinus infections are viral, so antibiotics won't always be effective. I hope yours responds to the antibiotics though. It's really horrid to be suffering from it.

There's some info about it here www.patient.co.uk/health/Sinusitis-Acute.htm

I had sinusitis all last week and got some homeopathic medicine that cured me in a thrice. Might be worth looking into.

Yes I think you can. I had it and it dragged on for many weeks despite the antibiotics. Truly a pain!

That's reassuring I think. Lucky enough to have never felt so ill for so long before. GP gave me more antibs as it went and came back again which she said could mean bacterial although I instinctively feel it's viral as I've had achey arms etc, fatigue. Don't know anyone else with it though so not sure what that means. What was the exact homeopathic remedy? Willing to try anything.

I had this for ages: about 4 weeks plus another 2-3 until I started to get my energy back. It was awful and preceded by the flu. You have my sympathies.

I get it on / off all the time :( not necessarily the painful face ,teeth etc...on all occasions but at the very least blocked ears ,blocked nose and then a phlegmy chest where I've had to sleep on a elevated pillow and it's made it's way down. I'm on antibiotics at the moment as I'm hoping it's just a infection that hasn't cleared up properly. Before I had my daughter I used to use a steroid nasal spray Flixonase and worked wonders !! But had to stop it as I started meds and it doesn't mix well with the spray. But yeah it can go on for that long and even when you think it's gone ,when everyone else is getting a sniffle it'll flair up.

It's the headaches that are the killer, I don't actually feel too bunged up, it's all behind my forehead, eyes, cheeks, ears. And the exhaustion combined with insomnia. It's never been as bad as the first week so I guess I'm slowly on the mend.

Sydney what you are describing is exactly what I had. The headaches were absolutely awful, as was the insomnia and exhaustion. I honestly thought I had meningitis or something. I couldn't turn my head from side to side either - so painful. And I am quite a tough old bird usually.

The other good thing to get, if you've got a spare ÂŁ10, is a saline sinus wash kit. I got the NeilMed one from Boots. They are recommended by doctors I think.

I have had it for 3 months Sad nasal irrigation relieves congestion and helps to get the mucus out

apermamentheadache that's exactly it! Had bloods and a brain scan (GP got worried when I said it hurt more lying down), had no idea sinusitis could cause such pain. Nor did the GP it would seem... Will try that rinse, thanks!

Does anyone know a painkiller that actually works on the headaches? Have tried paracetamol, sinutab, nurofen in all its forms, sumatriptan. Paramol does seem to work a bit but it has a load of codeine in and I'm not sure how good that is for you.

And how often can you use the neilmed kit? Doesn't seem to say anywhere in the instructions.

Can use the kit as often as you want. It is only saltwater

Oh it's quite pleasing isn't it? Doesn't seem to have helped with the head though. My nose doesn't actually feel at all blocked up. It kind of feels behind all that.

I found the only thing that worked on the pain was co-dydramol on prescription. So, basically, codeine.

Report
SydneyB · 14/04/2014 18:51

Yup, I guess that's why the Paramol works, has co-dydrocodeine or summat in it. It says in BIG LETTERS, don't take for more than 3 days.

Hmm well I had it for a good 10 days, not that I'm advocating that, mind Wink. I guess that's because it's an opiate and potentially addictive.

SydneyB · 14/04/2014 19:41

Bring on the opiates. A friend gave me a Valium the other day and that was amaze. Pretty sure my GP won't go that route Wink
